Five Civil Questions to Pose to Your Liberal Friends
Godfather Politics ^ | August 30, 2014 | David Bahnsen

If I were being totally honest, I would say that it has not been my experience that very many left-leaning folks in this country want to have an honest dialogue on the key issues that separate left from right. This is particularly true amongst the academically credentialed leftists I have encountered who presumably know they have nothing to gain by exposing their worldview or ability to defend it.

Excellent points to ponder.

I agree that the hardcore leftists who are still 100% behind Obama won’t deal; they will counter with attacks and ignore the questions.

But I’m saving these for the people who are “media driven” liberals because they weakly go with whatever they hear on TV. Especially the young ones: good for your own older kids too. Excellent questions.

Do you believe that “actions speak louder than words”?

Oh you do, then explain the net outflow of money, people and business from blue areas to red ones.

Since you are so into “diversity” and “affirmative action”:

Why don’t white liberals move into minority neighborhoods and send their kids to minority-majority schools? Why don’t you shop and invest in minority businesses and areas?

Why do you follow the hated conservatives into their suburbs and school districts?

Why don’t you give up your positions, promotions, and Lil Darlins spots in prep schools, colleges and professional schools in favor of a “disadvantaged” minority?

How can you be so for the sanctity of life for convicted killers yet openly support abortion and its proponents?

I could never be friends with a liberal. Their creed is evil; they hate America.

Wow. I don’t often click through to a link in an article’s comments section, but I did click through to this one: http://www.mypracticalphilosophy.com/shelp/mythdiff.htm Despite some grammar errors, this guy NAILS it.

I think a lot of you read the questions but not the first two paragraphs of the article where he pretty much states that it is hopeless to have an open and honest discussion with liberals. These questions are not for them. They are for the left-leaning or pro-democrats who are not hardcore who are still open to discussion.

He writes: “If I were being totally honest, I would say that it has not been my experience that very many left-leaning folks in this country want to have an honest dialogue on the key issues that separate left from right. This is particularly true amongst the academically credentialed leftists I have encountered who presumably know they have nothing to gain by exposing their worldview or ability to defend it.
However, the vast majority of us know some in our Rolodex of friends and co-workers who are naturally inclined towards a more left-wing (liberal), pro-Democratic Party stance/platform, and yet are willing to engage and discuss the various issues that separate us. This article is intended for your discussions with THESE people, for whom I believe these questions may be useful in their attempts to think through their liberal political worldview, or your attempts to engage them in such.”

Do you believe you have the first claim to the fruits of your labors, or is all property held in common?

How can the same government that mishandled and lost the War on Drugs be trusted and further funded to wage the War on Poverty?

Unfortunately for some of us, we have relatives that are liberal....

That's an excuse, you know...as stated, anyway.

Thank you for referencing those questions Balding_Eagle. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the questions and not at you.

1. Do you believe public employee unions have been a constructive force in American society or a destructive one?

2. Are you for MORE government in American lives or LESS government?

3. Would you consider the “war on poverty” of the last fifty years to have been a success?

4. Do you like big money in politics or dislike it?

5. Does the economy function better with greater regulation or less regulation?

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
The given questions are a challenge only for citizens who were never taught the federal government's constitutionally limited powers and don't know why the Founding States enumerated certain protections into the Constitution. In the context of the Constitution, and probably many state constitutions, they are basically meaningless imo.

I think Ted Grant correctly reworded those questions in post 14, allowing the opening of a real discussion, such as it is, with Liberals.

I have three lib sisters who "know" that certain lib positions are correct. How do they know? Because they heard it from another lib or lib source. I try to pin them down on where they get their information. FOX News and conservative talk radio are definitely out as far as their sources. Their sources are shallow to say the least.

I also have a lib brother who believes The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are good sources for information. Can't really have an honest discussion with any of them.

I do have Liberal friends and family members.

I am only friends with people that share my values. To do otherwise is to devalue and dilute the meaning of friendship. When the SHTF and the liberal, fascist police state federal government demands that your liberal "friends" inform on those evil conservatives, will you see them wave to you as you are shipped off to a "re-education" camp?

BINGO!

Progressives are a nasty bunch. They’d smirk as they waved.

I have to admit, since Zero got elected, there are a number of people that I used to be friendly with, but just can no longer do so because they think he’s the second coming of Christ. I cannot stomach people who voted for him the second time. They must be insane.
