Michael Brown’s Size Doesn’t Matter

We’ve now moved to a new stage of the racist reaction to the police killing of Michael Brown: the largely overt assertion that he deserved to be killed.

In the immediate aftermath of Brown, though unarmed, being shot “multiple times” after being stopped while walking in the middle of the street, the “ballad” being played in some quarters went like this: we don’t know all the facts so we shouldn’t rush to judgment.

But, once the Ferguson police released the video of Michael Brown purportedly snatching a box of cigars from the convenience store and intimidating its clerk, that advice was quickly replaced by that old standby: criminalizing the person who was killed.

Now, the slimers have simplified their defense of Brown’s killing. He was not an 18-year-old teenager, but a man-sized Black male 6’4” tall and well over 250 pounds was a threat to public safety. In other words: a “thug” – and therefore someone whom any White person should be able to execute with impunity.

Even if the premise that he was running away were true, yes. But the premise is false. He was not running away, but toward the policeman when he was shot.

It DOES matter if he used his size to intimidate and threaten and there is video proof of that - his big size evidently gave him a “big” head as far as over-estimating his power over people just because he was ‘big’. It DOES matter when he’s throwing punches - there was considerable weight, mass & power behind those punches. It also likely DOES matter because a larger size/bulk will absorb more lead, unless it’s a kill shot.

He wasn’t shot because he “looked big” .... he was shot because he’d already proved himself a danger to the health, safety and life of the officer he was probably charging so he could inflict round #2 of damage. If he’d been a scrawny little guy, he would have likely not thrown punches to start with & been running like a scared rabbit away rather than charging an officer with a gun - in that regard, his size DID matter.

The size factor is even true for dogs. I have a very friendly 110 lb. Great Dane, a bit small for his breed. Nevertheless, at 110, he has a huge “WOW!!” impact on people and intimidates by his size alone, especially when it comes to people who are up to no good. BTW, Daney Dogs ROCK!

This epitomizes what is wrong with liberal opinion. I am taller than Brown was and almost as big. And if I assaulted a cop, tried to take his gun and then charged him, he would be entirely justified in shooting me.

The liberal chooses to ignore inconvenient facts in crafting their memes. A conservative shapes their opinions based upon the facts. If it turns out that Brown did not charge Wilson or assault him or try to take his gun, then Wilson should be prosecuted. But the fact that Brown stole cigars, assaulted the store owner and then was walking down the middle of the street gives a pretty good indication of his state of mind that day. The fact that Brown was not shot in the back, as claimed by a witness, shows that witness has no veracity. Given the facts we have so far, there is nothing that indicates Brown was just minding his own business and got shot for being large.
