I had a black grandma come in to visit her son in Lansing, Kansas State Penitentiary, she came in monthly and during small talk she told me that she was glad to have the correctional system. She said that “today she was going to visit her son and tomorrow she was going to the Kansas women's prison to visit her daughter and then she was going to visit her grandson in juvie up in Atchison and at least she knows they are staying out of trouble and taken care of properly”.

Very sad, and the woman didn’t feel responsible for the way her kids ended up. If anyone in my family was in prison or had even been arrested, I would die of embarrassment but it’s normal in some black families.
