Having solved all other problems, Obama to fix your dishwasher

I guess he really was multitasking out on the golf course. The President’s team has been hard at work behind the scenes, coming up with a strategy … well, maybe we should say plan, to address the nation’s many challenges.

Spurred by President Obama’s climate action plan, the Department of Energy is pumping out new standards for refrigerators, dishwashers, air conditioners, ceiling fans, furnaces, boilers, water heaters, lamps and many more appliances.

The administration says the standards will not only help the planet but also stimulate the economy by saving consumers money on their energy bills that they can spend elsewhere.

After what we’ve been through with energy regulations, you’d think the administration would be at least a little hesitant to leap in for another grab at that brass ring. I mean, won’t a sudden raft of new requirements for the products everyone has to purchase have some, er… unintended consequences? William Teach seems to have been thinking along the same lines.

Everyone seems to think that The Won is an exception, but he exemplifies the whole Lefty, Progressive, Democrat mindset. ‘Brighter and Better than you’ and determined to prove it regardless of outcome.

If you like your dishwasher, you can keep your dishwasher.

My dishwasher is so efficient now, I need to run it twice sometimes to get clean dishes.

My new step in unloading the dishwasher is to check what needs to be put back in for another wash cycle. And that's even with adding a little sprinkle of TSP to the detergent.

The administration says the standards will not only help the planet but also stimulate the economy by saving consumers money on their energy bills that they can spend elsewhere.

One problem is that if everyone reduces their electricity usage, the local utility will run off crying that their profits are down and get to raise their rates so I pay the same amount for less electricity.

What energy saving. Soon there will not be enough energy to run anything with all the efficient electricity generating plants that are being closed down.

I have the feeling that the new energy efficient dishwashers are going to turn out like the water efficient toilets: In the test lab, they work great, but in the real world, you have to flush two or three times for them to do the job as well as the old high capacity toilets and as a result, they use more water than the old toilets.

Here’s my prediction with the dishwashers: Sure, they will be marginally more energy efficient, but they will not clean as well and as a result, pre-washing the dishes with hot soapy water will be the norm. So, while the dishwasher may use less energy and less water in the test lab, in the real world, the energy and water savings will be offset by the hot water used to pre-wash the dishes.

They have to have energy mandates, because high efficiency is very expensive and generally doesn’t work as well. Few people would choose to spend more money for an item with lower performance, i.e. a dishwasher that doesn’t clean as well, in order to save a dollar or two per month on energy.

Consider the old V8 engine. Some improvements, like headers, produce a fairly good performance increase for the money spent. To get better performance, one has to spend progressively more money for smaller returns. This is the situation, I believe, with green technologies.

I’m not saying I believe in all these government mandates. I have no problem with a government that wants to recommend a particular energy saving feature, but I don’t think it should be mandating them. Regardless, I think I understand why liberals feel they have to create these mandates. It’s the only way to drive the changes liberals want. People with free choice won’t make the “right” choices.

First of all,the consumer will likely have less money to spend because of “high efficiency” appliances. Electric rates continue to rise. The appliances are only efficient in the area of the rated amount of power they are supposed to use. Highly efficient vehicles are another example of where this is all going. Sure, they get small engines to develop high horsepower & are at least somewhat fuel efficient, but this costs money to do,so they are expensive to buy, expensive to repair,& are dead weight on a used car lot in a few years, because they are not cheap to repair EVEN IF parts are available.

Yup just went through that with mine....cost to buy $900...estimate to fix 300+. When they got to the point of not knowing how to take it apart I said just send me a service call bill and I will get a replacement.

Thank you EPA and Obola.

Fortunately I had the good sense to store up a bunch of light bulbs, at least enough to last me to the other side.

It's apropos

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." — C.S. Lewis

“One problem is that if everyone reduces their electricity usage, the local utility will run off crying that their profits are down and get to raise their rates so I pay the same amount for less electricity.”

That works so well here with water usage the utility has to raise fees due to the less usage of water.

It will help consumers who have the money to invest in a new appliance to save money. Just like new energy efficient cars, they will be priced out of reach of lower income Americans so that they will hold on to their less efficient cars or appliances until they have no choice.

Yep, I have been experiencing this for several years now. We keep doing stuff to reduce our usage, and the bill keeps going up anyway.

Any of you buy one of the low flow outside hose nozzles ? There is not enough water flow to wash your own car.
