I believe you are absolutely correct on the aspect of alteration. However, I do believe we ARE there yet.
Gene therapy is a reality... and implantable chips are a primary method of delivery.
Is the medical rfid the mark? probably not by itself... but every major tech deployment goes through it’s live testing phase, and there is no question in my mind that the actual mark is undergoing very rigorous final stage testing as we speak.

I believe you are right. One thing I learned when I was doing work for the Feds is that they are approximately 10 - 15 years ahead in their technological advancements beyond what we think they are. I believe that they onceal this information from the public because they know it would cause panic if they truly knew what their capabilities were. So yes I believe this is something they have in the works and will not reveal until they make it mandator, not optional, to receive.
