SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HIT Barry McGuire: Cloudy Summer AfternoonToday, Barry McGuire is a success in Christian rock, but in the mid-Sixties he was best known for his recording of P. F. Sloans protest song, Eve of Destruction. (I did Phil Sloans songbook a few years ago.) This is an example of just what Lou Adler could do as a producer. The Dixieland jazz playing is top notch, and the instrumental middle section of this recording is superlative. This should have been a hit.
