Oh I've been there. One of my friends here just retired from James Avery a couple years ago. In his younger years, after he had served during Viet Nam he played bass for the Thirteenth Floor Elevators. Ronnie Leatherman.

Here's Cindy Terry with a James Avery piece ... she is gone but not forgotten.

I think that was a ruling from Barefoot Sanders that’s referred to as the “Robin Hood” ruling, wherein money is taken from well-funded school districts and given to poorer school districts. .....Should have been overturned!

An increase in the sales tax was supposed to take care of the disparity.

Re: de facto state property tax

Ask Kansas City how that works.

A better distribution of responsibility would be through sales tax adjustments

No, on number of children you have, maybe like a tuition would be better.

I am tired of funding the family that has 13 kids, on welfare and WICS and keeps having babies.

Let them pay directly for each of their lil brats.

he said, going on to describe the societal benefits of a well-educated population: lower crime rates, fewer people who need public assistance and a greater state income.

Do away with the English as second language" (ESL) program and a lot of unneeded positions will go away. I remember years ago when our district got a letter from some ISD in south Texas thanking us for paying for their new computers, while our ISD had an outdated computer lab.

The only fair tax is “PAY AS YOU GO.”

Your kid goes to public school, YOU, not everyone who now pays forever, pay a tax to send them through.

Back as far as the late 1950’s the cost of educating your child was REASONABLE. From that time on, the unbelieveable waste, corruption, State, Local and Federal regulations, and the cost of administration of our schools has blossomed into a “skunk cabbage” that now stinks to high heaven.

If you have one (or two) kids (which is reasonable and financially feasible) you should bear the cost of their public education for the duration they use the service...not others who have not used the system at all. If you have 10-15 little brats, live on welfare, and steal from the taxpayers on all levels, you should be made to work and pay your (and your kids) way.

Our schools systems are like a vacuum cleaner sucking up money and providing really nothing more than Political indoctrinational brainwashing for our children.

Go back to the schools I came up in; those that taught the basics and vocational skills. The most memorable statement I ever heard was “Learn the basics and everything else will take care of itself.” A statement long lost on the entitlement society.

Could not agree more. I never had children and never will but I pay for everybody else's through property tax.

Same with Federal, I have no children so I don't get to claim any dependents but I sure pay for everybody else's including the friggin ILLEGALS!

Seriously, home value, hahahahahaha! And you know who decides what your home’s value is. Try a little nothing falling down small 60 year old house valued at a ridiculous $$$$$$$$$. Then increase the taxes yearly on it the legal limit of 10% and sneak in a little fuzzy math percentage for good measure. That’s the reason literally every other home on our Texas street had a for sale sign last summer. People can’t afford the taxes and are being forced to move.

I have a better idea.

Get the government out of the education business entirely.

I live in Texas. In 1997 I bought an old house (built in 1950) for $20,000 from a financially distressed seller.

Over the years the “assessed tax value” of the house has increased to over $87,000....and nothing has been done to improve it.

The Tax secret is that in Texas you cannot increase the tax rate over a set percentage each year. However, the politicians “on the take” never addressed outrageous property valuations nor any limits to them.

To make a long story short, the stupid voters took the bait...the limit on tax rate increases but were so stupid that they did not address the valuation process.

Of course, we all know how professional all tax collection agencies and government entities are when it comes to anything that even smells like professionalism, but the “lemmings” still went for it thinking they were going to sae money by limiting ONLY the rate of tax increase.

I’m to the age that I constantly think of what will happen to my loved ones when I die. My main concern is that with the immediate decrease in income for them with my passing, that the properties I own outright will be lost due to the fact that they will have to pay at least $5,300 in taxes each year (one hell of a lot more if they can’t pay on time) and they will have to pay for insurance and maintenance too.

The shame of it is that once you own your home and property outright, YOU DON’T OWN IT...GOVERNMENT DOES! The government simply allows you to rent it while being responsible of all maintenance, insurance and upkeep. The GOVERNMENT gives you nothing for the money they rip from your hands other than a public school system that would rival the Taj Mahal and public facilities that would wow Rome.

The time has come to rid ourselves of the “blood sucking” vermin in government and force them back into their caves where they would be made to to what they originally were designed to do: Basic government for basic services and that does not include the public education system.

Yep. Yours has gone up 4.3 times what you paid for it. We bought ours a couple years before yours and it’s gone up 7.6 times what we paid. Has your paycheck kept up with that? Ours certainly hasn’t. We haven’t been able to keep up with general repairs as every dime has to be saved for the property taxes. And they claim we’re still undervalued.... ridiculous.
