The Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia was a Soviet-sponsored, PLO-hatched organization that wanted to annex eastern Turkey to the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic.
As it happens I was in an Armenian church back in '90 when they were commemorating the Armenian Genocide. The Catholicos-Patriarch in Etchmiadzin issued a statement (printed in the church bulletin) saying that Armenians could not be permitted to have the "wrong political orientation" and that Armenian survival depended on the USSR.
