No, our immigration system is not broken: It's the Deportation System that needs fixing

Just exactly how do you determine:

1) Proof that the person’s skills are needed here when he is already working on a task for instance?

Are you going to tell the company whatever the company name is that YOU (i.e. the government) have determined that the company (i.e. Microsoft ) must send the employee home because you (the government) have determined that his skills are not really needed here?

2) Prove that they are not self-sufficient?

Legal immigrants ( i.e. Green Card holders ) who work get taxed the same way as citizens. They pay payroll taxes for medicare, social security and income taxes like citizens.

If they get laid off for say six months, they are eligible for unemployment BECAUSE they paid for it with their taxes.
If they eventually find work, they’re off unemployment like other citizens. Is the period they were not self-sufficient when accepting unemployment going to be held against them when they apply for citizenship?

That sounds like another version of ‘jobs Americans won’t do’.

I know people in the IT field who take strong exception to H-1b visas.

We need to fix H-1B visas so the people we want and need are able to get here, and not others.

And why does it take years to go through the system to get here legally? Isn’t that a disincentive to doing it the legal way.

There are some reforms that are needed, but nothing should be considered until the border is secure.

(Of course, liberals will tell you they successfully closed the Borders — after all, it hasn’t sold a single book for a few years.)

The people who “want and need” the H-1B program are employers who have been systematically replacing American IT professionals with Indian imports, and the H-1Bs themselves.

There is no shortage of qualified Americans. The stories of Americans being required to train their H-1B replacements are legion.
