Well, we can look at other places that had "moderate Republicans". Larry Denardis was a soft right of center Republican in the 3rd district of CT. His seat now belongs to Rosa DeLauro, and preceded by #1 lefty in ratings Bruce Morrison. The RINOs who ran against either were mauled. The last Republican who came CLOSE to winning was Tom Scott.
No complaint about a reasonable Democrat being available from the authors, is there?
RINO Republicans are roadkill, or prep work for off-the-edge lefty Democrats, which is why all of the RINO Republicans in Kansas signed on against Brownback and FOR the Dem.

What was it again that the chairman of the Republican National Committee, another Wisconsinite, said that the GOP needed to do? Ah yes. The party should “develop a program designed to educate Republicans on the importance of developing and tailoring a message that is non-inflammatory and inclusive to all.” If that was the grand plan forward, well, the Grand Old Party is going backward in the place where it was born. Odd that the New Republic doesn't do a short piece on Democrats 'reaching out' to NRA members, evangelical Christians, and people who believe in protecting our borders. Democrats could '“develop a program designed to educate Democrats on the importance of developing and tailoring a message that is non-inflammatory and inclusive to all.”
Of course, the New Republic - being blind to their own biases ... would miss the humor of the piece. So much for Alec MacGillis' pretensions..

The New Republic hits Glenn Grothman. I wonder what Petri was wearing when interviewed by this writer? THe last time I saw Petri was when he (one of the wealthiest men in Congress) addressed our local Lincoln Day Brunch a couple of years ago as Keynote speaker. His shirt cuffs were RAGGED and dirty. On a Sunday morning.
