White thugs and thieves would have been quite noticeable in that neighborhood. Must have been the Amish that stole the copper. They’d be less likely to have been noticed.

Over a decade now I’ve been hearing about copper wire/pipe thieves and I know people who’ve been struck.
Since the current laws aren’t working, how about death penalty offense to keep them off the streets?
In the 80s I knew someone who couldn’t start her car one morning because someone who needed a part just took it out of her engine.
It apparently was stolen from places that were being redeveloped. Often they strike places that haven’t opened yet although near my city, they recently stole it out of a live music venue that has been open for several years.
Why not steal carpeting too? And the windows? And...?
