Before Michael Sam, the NFL's first openly gay player, ever set foot on an NFL football field, doubters had claimed that he would be a distraction to his team and shunned by his teammates. However, in the first media flare-up regarding Sam's orientation, he has received the definitive support of one of the strongest voices in his locker room.
The precipitating incident was an ESPN report on how Sam, no sure thing to make the Rams' roster, was adjusting to life with his new teammates. And after some initial cliches, the report took a sharp turn, focusing for almost a full minute on Sam's showering habits:

The people just aren’t ready for that level of propaganda yet. They need more softening up.
I think the players should push the absurdity of this by demanding that the cheerleaders share the same showers with the team, since apparently it’s now perfectly ok to shower with people of a sex your attracted too!

Only if they have what I call the "Obama Factor". In Obama's case it was skin color. Had he been white with the same other qualifications and background he would never have even made it into the primaries.
With Sam it is homosexuality. Had he been straight or silent about his proclivities he'd have been drafted or not, cut or kept with little or no fanfare outside of his college community and hometown.
This seems like much more of a media issue than a sports issue.

They exist solely to further the leftist agenda.
They seem to be obessessed with stuff most normal people have no interest in, or actively shun, like gay locker room behaviors.
I haven’t watched NFL so far this year and don’t plan to. Professional football no longer has anything positive to offer my life.
