Israel is 'Choosing not to Win', Says British Expert
Arutz-7/Israel National News ^ | 25AUG2014 | Gil Ronen

Barak Seener of RUSI says Israel 'should have gone in harder,' must reclassify human shields as combatants and stop aborting airstrikes.

----------------------

Barak Seener, an Associate fellow at Britain's Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies, thinks Israel is “choosing not to win” the war in Gaza.

Seener – who has provided analysis and expert commentary for a range of international broadcasters and news outlets including the Associated Press, Al-Jazeera, BBC, CNN, Chinese CCTV, Fox News, Sky News, Voice of America, Bloomberg, Reuters and Xinhua – told Arutz Sheva that Israel is pursuing a misguided approach to the war, both on the ground and in the battle of words and images. The result will inevitably a deterioration of Israel's international standing, as the war wears on.

What they need to do is for each Hamas attack on a residential section, target and level a residential condominium project in Gaza. You would think they would get the message at some point.

As long as nearly two million hostile Palestinians remain in an adjacent self governing militarized enclave, Israel has a grave non sustainable strategic problem. They will soon rearm with more sophisticated and stealthy missiles. The jihadists will have no difficulty recruiting suicide terrorists. Ultimately Israel must correct the grievous error that allowed the establishment of this entity.

They seem about as attentive as we are to islamism.

unfortunately that’s always what they do.

One day, sadly, it will probably be their undoing.

At the end of WWII, as our victory was all but assured, the debate was what terms of surrender would be acceptable. As I understand it, Unconditional Surrender was the only way for the Japanese to stop the bombing. The Japanese rejected this and two atomic bombs were dropped to cement this point. Truman wanted this thing settled once and for all. It seems that Israel is up against the same fence post that Truman was. Either come to some ceasefire agreement, that simply lets Hamas recruit, rearm, and restart hostilities. Or embark of a bombing campaign (non-nuclear) that settles this hash, once and for all.

Bad choices all around, but the easy ways have been tried before without notable success.

Hamas has said again and again that their goal is NOT a Palestinian state, or any other bargaining chip the West comes up with, but only the complete destruction of the Jewish people.

In my view, anything that prolongs this situation is foolish and wrong. Tell me how I'm wrong.

Ị never expected Netanyahu to go in for the kill. He is a politician and he needs Hamas around to do this again and again to periodically bolster his Resolute No Nonsense credentials. If he goes away the next politician if hi is relatively strong and rational will continue that policy. If his is less strong he will give away more of Israel and make the country less defensible.

Each side is in the position that it only has to win once. Hamas is trying mightily to reach that Once. Israeli politicians are giving them evermore chances to reach their Once.

Hamas helped them along today. Their customary way of celebrating killed a 19 year old girl, and wounded 54, mostly Gaza civilians. Apparently they don’t think the laws of gravity apply to them.

I suppose Truman did not want them to work on the bomb and knew they were. Man have Democrats changed since then. Why do they love nuclear proliferation in hands of terrorists? Overpopulation control and turning guns on ourselves much?

israel is indeed, it seems, making the same kind of mistakes it always seems to make...refusing to win....(or refusing to keep what it wins when it does win)

Formerly, this was on account of “American pressure” against Jerusalem

but nowadays, despite Obama’s efforts, attempts at pressuring Israel into another defeat.......he lacks the power to actually do it. So, this is instead an example of JSS (Jewish Suicide Syndrome)..not letting themselves win even when their own survival is at stake.

I thought a whole lot more of the current Israeli government than this. This, if true, is very very very disappointing. And it will of course lead to Israel havinv to fight to defend herself again tomorrow...

and the next time after that.
and the next time after that, too.

Just because she refuses to win now.

In theory, you're right. But in reality, unfortunately you're not so right.

Israel is a client state of the US. Israel depends on the goodwill of the American people and the American government. Israel cannot afford to alienate either one.

But if Israel carpet-bombed Gaza, America would be outraged. Europe would be outraged. The UN would be outraged. Israel would be an outcast nation.

Truman never had that problem.
