Florida school district replaces football chaplains with "life coaches"

Troy Schmidt’s jaw dropped.

A few minutes before, he had been preparing to start his seventh year as chaplain for the Olympia High School football team in Florida. But now, those plans had been changed – radically changed.

“I received a call from the coach,” Schmidt told me. “He said Orange County Public Schools is no longer allowed to have chaplains as a part of the football program.”

Schmidt, who is a campus pastor of the First Baptist Church of Windermere, Florida, listened as the football coach explained the district’s decision to cleanse Christianity from its ranks.

“I could no longer open the Bible, talk about the Bible, talk about God or pray with the team in any capacity,” he told me. “It was heartbreaking.”

A spokesperson for Florida's Orange County Public Schools confirmed they have ended the long-standing tradition of having local ministers serve as volunteer chaplains for football teams.

“They cannot have chaplains or ministers before or after games – leading prayer,” spokesperson Shari Bobinski told me. “Students are more than welcome to lead their own prayers but our faculty and staff cannot be involved nor can we bring in an outside chaplain.”

For the Left, the Constitution is always an outdated, outmoded piece of paper except when they want to purge Christians from something.

Works both ways though.

When the backlash comes, the communists, homosexuals, baby killers, lawyers, illegal aliens, and muslims are going to be in a world of hurt.

Parents should pull their kids off the team. Make them forfeit games for this. Sometimes, doing the right thing requires sacrifice.

The schools wouldn’t care...What the parents should do is go down on the field, lead the minister down there and pray with the minister, coaches and players and dare the school board to do anything...If they do, read them the first amendment about “Make NO law...”

I think it’s high time for the public schools to stop football and all other team athletics and stick to a basic education. Let other groups form teams as they wish rather than soaking us with taxes, then charging outrageous fees for the games themselves and then telling us what we can or cannot do when playing.

If this is what it means to be “public” (and rest assured this action comes straight from the Obama administration) then public should be minimized to the smallest extent possible so that true liberty can reign again.

Y’know... the kind of liberty only illegal immigrants have today.

And also do away with all religious holidays (and not replace them with socialist crap).

“life coaches”

Is that something like parole officers?

These Christian hating radicals get 99% of what they want through threats and coercion. Any sign of a backbone and they would back down, but Orange County proved their strategy correct once again.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
