A female soldier who sparked an "active shooter" alert on a Virginia military base on Monday died after shooting herself in the head, military sources said.
...
The soldier, who has not yet been publicly identified, reportedly did not harm anybody else during her morning rampage in an office in a four-story building on the base, which is located about 45 km (28 miles) south or Richmond, Virginia.
...
Maj. Gen. Stephen R. Lyons, the commanding general of the support command, said that the soldier was a sergeant 1st class who had been in the Army for 14 years and stationed at Fort Lee for three years.
...
He said authorities did not yet know if the sergeant was receiving mental health treatment, but he described her as enraged during the incident. The weapon she was carrying was a small-caliber handgun and not a service weapon, he added.

Sad.
I read the article but found no reason for her actions. Just that she was enraged.
Is this a reason for women not to be in active military service?
Plenty of people go postal. Not just women.
Perhaps she got a layoff notice?
Unless something has drastically changed, SFC (E-7) is locked in until retirement barring severe disciplinary action. My guess is a relationship that went sour.
According to the internets, it’s more common for males to use a firearm to commit suicide than it is for females.
Shall we wait to find out the rest of the story, before anyone uses this incident as a grinder for their axe?
“Time of the month?”
Heck, this is my wife every month! It’s a miracle I’ve survived this long.
That said, I’ll bet she was on anti-depressants (Prozac), people don’t realize just how messed up those pills can make you (there is a black box warning about suicide on these but what they also don’t tell you is that almost every mass shooter has been on these at the time they went postal),
She’s an inactive shooter now.
Good idea.
“Locked-in” (aka “Sanctuary”) doesn’t occur until 18 yrs service...
Didn’t detect the sarc in my post?
What. . .time of the month?
;-)
She had to be “enraged” about something. They just don’t know what the reason is yet.
