I don’t think the bishops’ motives are quite so simple. I mean, it’s not simply about the collection plate.
They know as well as anyone that the Mexicans who come here are mostly lapsed or about-to-lapse Catholics. They don’t attend Mass, they don’t go to Confession, they don’t give to the Church, they don’t get married before having babies, they have as many abortions as anybody else. And the vote 70% pro-abortion.
What I mean is that most of the bishops’ motivation is political and ideological rather than the collection plate. The pro-open-borders-and-amnesty bishops are lefties, ranging from ordinary incurable Democrats to Communists. And they are all abortionist-snugglers. They all love to have their photos with their local pro-abortion politicians. And, if they are Dolan or O’Malley, with Obama himself.
No. It’s not about the pittance that a minority of Mexicans are going to be putting in the collection plate. It’s about the parties, the photos, and the federal billions.
