I think it is pretty clear that people are doing both. Now how that got started, I don’t know. But this has been genius fundraising for them, so file this under: nothing succeeds like success.

I hope anyone who supports them and ESCR goes to hell.

And you can make a specific request that your donation not be used for that stuff.

Leftist ploy alert!!! The same line is used by United Way for Planned Barrenhood! They simply move in other money to fill the gap.

But lets not lose sight of the fun of the challenge and the ice buckets.

I hope you have fun on your way to the burning cauldron.

But I've also seen people who passed away from that terrible disease. It ain't pretty.

I visit a nursing home virtually every day. Not a single one of the residents is suffering from anything "pretty".

I’m starting the ‘drink a can of beer’ to end PMS challenge.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Yes. I said, “The ALS Foundation funds Embryonic Stem Cell Research. Of course, that means the killing of babies. Besides, ESCR has never produced ANY treatment for any disease.”

“I hope anyone who supports them and ESCR goes to hell.”

Anyone who thinks that killing babies is OK probably will go to hell.

My wife was “nominated” for this and accepted. I would not have. For one thing I WILL PICK MY OWN CHARITIES! But upon further questioning I was even more turned off.

1) It is to “raise awareness” in other words it is to increase fund raising not find a cure. If you jump through hoops you can donate to research only.

2) “This challenge has increased donations by....” Ok, so they can further fund raise? What have they done with these extra donations?

3) No mention of any progress towards a cure or treatment.

4) And finally, the use of pressure for “charity” has always turned me off. Reminds me of the United Way drives in the USAF; you would dare not say no....

Also I wonder what the take home will be this year for the top execs there. “Non profit” does not mean that the staff works for free, often they do quite well.

The whole ice bucket challenge thing is totally stupid and moronic. I will be extremely glad when it passes. And if I get challenged I will just tell them I gave at the office.

This charity also uses too much of the donations for administrative costs. Translation: a lot of people get big fat salaries for not doing anything related to finding a cure.

There's the reason I won't give to them.

One of my cousins, a guy I really grew up with, died of this terrible disease.

We played everything together, from Little League baseball through high school football, but as adults with our own families, we grew apart, both going our own ways. In 2000 one of our old aunties made me aware of what was going on and it happened that I was doing a lot of traveling for work and a fifty mile detour would bring me through town, so I got to stop and see Cuz as often as possible.

He died in '04.

I hold on to the last smile and the laughter in his eyes when I said, "Hey Cuz, who ever thought we'd make sixty."

They'll get nothing from me...
