Too bad panic has no nutritional value.

Then again, maybe they can make panicakes.

“The Last Ship” is doing a pretty interesting take on what would happen here in the US given much the same conditions (a massive Hot Zone outbreak).

I’m not too sure that we wouldn’t react in a far worse fashion than what seems to be an understandable panic from folks who were living on the bare edge.

But, all things considered, would one rather be in a “red” or a “blue” city should something like this happen?

A bit of hell on earth for these people. It must be terribly difficult for them to understand. Starvation or Ebola or both. I understand their panic and anger but they must be quarantined. They also must be fed. Their nonfunctional government is to blame but what’s blame worth when the slum dwellers are dying? My prayers for those affected and those trying to help.

When a pandemic hits the US stories of cannibalism will become commonplace.

Anyone who isn’t concerned about Ebola should read “The Hot Zone” - nonfiction by Richard Preston.

Read it online for free here:

http://learn.flvs.net/educator/common/EnglishIIv10/TheHotZone.pdf

Here is the Amazon summary:

The bestselling landmark account of the first emergence of the Ebola virus. A highly infectious, deadly virus from the central African rain forest suddenly appears in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. There is no cure. In a few days 90 percent of its victims are dead. A secret military SWAT team of soldiers and scientists is mobilized to stop the outbreak of this exotic “hot” virus. The Hot Zone tells this dramatic story, giving a hair-raising account of the appearance of rare and lethal viruses and their “crashes” into the human race.

Shocking, frightening, and impossible to ignore, The Hot Zone proves that truth really is scarier than fiction.

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

The hunger needs to be dealt with or people will flee the quarantined areas spreading the disease as they go.
