Police in Texas have admitted they were wrong to draw their guns on a mother of four when they pulled over the family car early this month, but they won't apologize.
Kametra Barbour was told to exit her vehicle and she was handcuffed at gunpoint as her children watched from the backseat, dashcam footage shows.
The police only lowered their weapons after her six-year-old son got out of the car with his hands up, asking the officers, "Are we going to jail?"
A child is heard crying and screaming on the footage, as an officer tells her, "Stop crying. It's OK. It's OK. Everything's fine now."
ABC News reports the officers were responding after reports of four black men waving a gun out of a beige or tan-coloured Toyota. Barbour was driving a burgundy Nissan Maxima.
The police department defended the traffic stop as appropriate.
Driving while black?
I think the woman acted very well, kept her cool as guns were pointed at her.
Good for her.
I heard the policeman on tape apologize more than once. They will probably not get an official apology
put a camera on cops would help all of this bullsh#t from happening and make the COPS civilly liable for criminal and certain civil offenses. Hit them in the donut fund.
Wrong make and model.
Wrong color.
The Texas cops had the decency to admit they made an error, though...
........well, thankfully the woman did what the cops told her to do resulting in neither her or her kids getting hurt. If Michael Brown had done the same thing he would be alive today to go hold up another convenience store!
As for the cops, I think they were probably pushing the envelope on this one. But, that’s the nature of their job. If they don’t they could end up dead as one does every 60 hours. Perhaps they over-reacted some but I think they genuinely thought the car could have bad guys in it. So, Based on what we know now, I support the cops on this one.
Between makes and models? Yes, a lot of cars out there today look quite similar.
Between beige/tan and burgundy? No.
‘An apology should be given...immediately.’
+1
No, "pushing the envelope" is not the nature of their job -- not unless you view routine civil rights violations as a normal part of police work. How about a little concern for law-abiding citizens who DO end up dead when the police "push the envelope"?
No more excuses for police. We have too many criminal gangs already.
If cops ever pull you over and terrorize you like they did this woman and her kids, you be sure to thank them and express your continued support..
There is a video from the police car. It shows that these officers can’t tell a beige Toyota from a burgundy Nissan and four Black men from a woman with four kids in the car. They should all be fired instead of being put on administrative leave because they are too stupid to do the job.
Really? If they assumed the eyewitness was wrong they can stop anyone. You. Me. Anyone.
I’ll just assume everything you type is wrong and go with that. Seems reasonable.
“Really? If they assumed the eyewitness was wrong they can stop anyone. You. Me. Anyone.”
They certainly can. Perhaps you know of some special eyewitnesses that area always correct though.
“Ill just assume everything you type is wrong and go with that. Seems reasonable.”
Now you sound like my wife. Whatever makes you happy dear.
They don’t hjave to always be correct. You come off sounding like a bigger fool now than with your original statement. Quit before you’re further behind.
Further observation, there must have been the aroma of fresh donuts coming from her car or the LEO mistakenly heard a dog in her car.
Clearly they have a shitty job, but the LEO organizations don’t really need to hire dumbasses and wannabe bullies that are only looking for a work-free job.
You are really a piece of work just intent on being an ass and displaying your ignorance for all. Go jump off a bridge you fool.
Eyewitnesses are notoriously bad. Especially when its dark outside as it was in this case.
That was not in Texas. Same pic in reply 7 above shows California plates.
Only part. The part that would have prevented their stopping and terrorizing anyone they pleased. They were evidently quite happy to take the gun-waving part of the "eyewitness report" as gospel.
You are attempting to construct an excuse for LEOs to behave in an arbitrary and incoherent way. Please don't.
“You are attempting to construct an excuse for LEOs to behave in an arbitrary and incoherent way. Please don’t.”
You are assuming and making an ass of yourself.
