Boy, do I ever agree with that! I'm a conservative native Idahoan who for complex reasons is living in a southern CA coastal city. Until a couple of years ago it was pretty conservative -- until developers began enticing L.A. residents to move here with lower-cost real estate and good jobs.
The upshot is we now have serious traffic congestion, outrageously aggressive drivers, spiraling drug abuse, gangs and increased crime, "combat" grocery shopping, and our conservative politicians have been edged-out by redistricting. The Congressional district has been gerrymandered to elect a Santa Monica socialist lesbian to "represent" us, all "thanks" to big city idiots overwhelming responsible people.
We live in the age of the stupid, greedy, irresponsible Low Information Voter. If they can do this to a CA city, just think of the damage coming to the rest of the nation.
My wife had an uncle who was an Okie farmboy who went to California looking for work in the late 30s. I gather that he thought the state was pretty great.
He joined the Cal National Guard in 1940 and got nationalized. He never got to enjoy living there for long since he was killed in France during the Battle of the Bulge.
Things are different now.
