Michael Brown: What the Ferguson riots tell us about race in America today
The London Telegraph ^ | August 24, 2014 | Rob Crilly in Ferguson, Missouri

Posted on 08/24/2014 4:48:16 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

They came to demand justice as the sun set over the Missouri suburb of Ferguson. Dawn and Chuck were white, like many of the other marchers parading up and down the town’s main strip, past looted, burnt-out shops and dozens of police officers.

What set them apart was their banner. “Justice for police officer Darren Wilson,” it read. They had come to demand justice not for Michael Brown, the unarmed black teenager, but for the white cop who shot him dead. They barely escaped.

Within minutes of their arrival, a crowd had formed, shouting abuse. They were gone in seconds, bundled away to safety by police. “What is the police doing,” one woman screamed. “They aren’t arresting them. They’re helping them. Protecting their own.”

The brief episode on Wednesday night was a stark reminder of America’s trouble with race. Brown’s death two weeks ago has led to demonstrations by day and riots at night. It has highlighted the gulf between a community on the edge of St Louis and the men and women who police it.

Across the country, it has polarised opinion between those who see a nation where white cops kill black men, and those who have donated £100,000 to a fund for Officer Wilson, or lit their porches blue to show support for the police.

More than 50 years after Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech, and with an African-American president well into his second term, the violence demonstrates just how sensitive the issue remains.

Markese Mull, who described himself as a friend of Brown, believes the killing was about one thing. “It’s about race, much as we don’t want it to be,” he said, standing near the memorial of flowers, candles and balloons where the teenager died....

Point taken - it’s funny that the so-called injustice of Black people wanting to be equal will then turn on an opposing black person and call him/her “racist” names...

It’s like a bully being bullied and crying about it? Makes complete BS all around...

They want “justice” and when the WHOLE story comes out about the before-during-and after...then, oh my, let’s shut the truth up by calling it names...names we don’t like to be called..

That whole segment of society is embarrassing - and every shade of skin has that issue...

Education and facts - for some reason make people run away. Ferguson is a prime example of lazy and stupid wanting to be taken as academic!

yeap-—didn’t hear one black person speaking about waiting to get the whole story...like this 9 yr old black boy this pass week that was shot in his back yard in South Chicago — I was waiting for Jesse and Al to descend on the neighborhood...but apparently their plane missed O’Hara and they are up in Canada somewhere...

A poll by the Pew Research Centre . . . found that while 80 per cent of blacks believe the shooting raises issues of race, only 37 per cent of whites agreed [and 100 % of MSM employees agreed?] . . . blacks are more likely to be stopped and searched, less likely to attend a leading college, and less likely to be represented in the top professions . . . “In too many communities around the country, a gulf of mistrust exists between local residents and law enforcement.” [Obama]

The effects of Black Privilege's victim's industry.

Celebrating 100 years of Black Privilege!

“There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs." ~ Booker T. Washington (1856-1915.) ~ Educator, Author, Civil Rights Leader

They cling to their grievances -- it pays!

Recall the light skinned Australian baseball player shot in the back by black young males for no reason other than they were bored?
No rioting, looting or further shooting with this racist motivated murder???. What happened?
Here there was not enough followup angst. Not enough indignation. Not enough hate.? I say there is overall still too much and it’s transparently one sided.

Not going to happen. John Kass covered it will a solid right hook for a knock out, but there isn’t a black John Kass doing that. That’s the problem.

That nothing has really changed in the black community in 30 years, and if anything it's gotten worse.

RE: My Reply #25

Black Privilege includes the grievance industry which has been thriving for more than 100 years it's only lately that whites dare confront any aspect of Black Privilege.

google search for "grievance industry" 1/1/1996 to 12/31/1999

got less than 10 hits.

Among them was this Heritage Foundation Jun 24, 1998 - "The poverty industry has joined forces with the race-grievance industry, and together they suppress reform that could have the power to uplift those low-income ..."

Black conservatives know this and more and more whites are speaking out about it.

That is exactly what is going on, and I do find it surprising how few have pointed out the irony of a Black mob demanding a lynching.

There’s a race war, it’s been going on for years. No one wants to admit that it exists. If you admit it exists, you are immediately a KKK Stormfront Grandioso Wizardo, and a racist asshole. If you’re white, you can be hated and despised. No other truth is allowed.

Since the riots were mostly astro-turf outside agitators, it says most of Ferguson understood who Michael Brown was.

Pray America wakes up

It’s just a matter of time before this Ferguson fiasco produces a “Kent State” type incident, and then things will really get interesting.

Young black men: 3% of the population. 50% of the murders.

That’s all you need to know about “race” in America.

Why of course it means Rush was right....again. After Obama’s first presidential election Limbaugh said rather than improve race relations Obama would set them back decades.

Repeat:

Here is a good time to say props to the World Champion Chicago Little League.

The team came back from the losers bracket with one loss to beat the undefeated powerhouse from Nevada.

The coaches were great, the kids were well poised and very talented.

The team & coaches are great role-models for the troubled urban youth in Chicago.

After photos, the team gathered on the pitchers mound for a prayer.

With the guidience & support from their coaches, family, community & Little League Baseball, these boys have a great opportunity to succeed & pay it forward to future generations.
