I remember the Northridge quake like it happened yesterday..I live 45 minutes from Northridge and we still felt it really good here, didnt have power for two days..I can only imagine the death toll would have been even higher had the quake happened in the afternoon instead of early morning. The Kaiser Medical Center’s parking lot collapsed, that alone would have killed a lot of people, its always super busy in the afternoon..Northridge Fashion Center buckled..freeways buckled
Good word, out records don't go back quite that far. There are several active faults in the area.
The good news is we probably don't have to worry about another earthquake on that ancient fault for over a million more years!

I lived in SF then, it was a 6.9 quake. Friend of mine was the last car in line of traffic on that bridge that did not get crushed . Freeway dropped down about two feet from her tires.

USGS didn’t show any significant “foreshocks” but believe me, this isn’t the first time I’ve woken up at night minutes before a shaking. I’ve heard of people picking on “undetectable” waves. There are videos of dogs showing erratic behavior and racing out of a room seconds before a quake hits. What are they reacting to?

a former Santa Clara county Geologist...the guy who predicted the Loma Prieta Quake..and got fired for his troubles...documents the high numbers of lost and missing pets reported in the days...and hours preceding an earthqauke. Something is happening to “inspire” that behavior...although we still dont know what it may be.

My daughter happened to be staying near Napa on a bachelorette wine tasting weekend. She woke up less than 5 minutes before the earthquake hit.
