The “K” key IS rather far from the “S” key...(examp: “S”lave”)

(I predict people are looking at their keyboards right this second)

hehehe

Yes everyone needs to recognize that these commando cops are not about keeping the peace and law enforcement. They are about subjugation and control of us.

I would not have said a word if the SWAT had gone into the areas being looted and knocked heads, arrested and totally stopped that crap. That’s what they are supposed to do, restore order but they don’t. They were too busy down at McDonalds arresting reporters and tea gassing TV people. It was ridiculous.

We aren’t going to be able to stop the proliferation of the military weapons to local police forces.

It’s important, however, to change those things we can, and in this case one thing to change is our perception of those weapons.

We need to begin thinking of them as resources for our side, resources being maintained and fueled for us to use when they are needed.

I don't know that for a fact, so I'll keep working to stop it through my State government.

That is what irked Mark Steyn too…..just what you said.

And let’s not forget, the “invasion” of Boston - to find a wounded 14 year old.

That Moron state cop the governor put in charge ordered the cops to do nothing to stop the looting!

Grossman is a bright guy and his analogy is good up to a point. It does not; however, account for the sheep dogs that become rabid. They are in some respects, more dangerous than the wolves because they are already moving in and amongst the sheep with impunity, authority and the veil of legitimacy.

So many holes in this piece, no counterpoint is necessary.

In other words, the "Militarization Myth" is no myth at all.

True however there are reasons they have the equipment and many are legit.

I am old enough to remember the DC riots in the 70s when Iranian "students" were running amok.

Presidente Carter felt that if the Capital Police displayed riot gear it could be "provocative" and incite further violence.

He sent them out with their regular duty gear and they got the living s*** kicked out of them. It was only by the grace of God none of them got killed. Several of their horses were not so lucky.

Consider not only appearances but also terminology. Calling them the city’s “finest” does not make them fine. Calling them “sheepdogs” does not make them sheep if they are in fact wolves in blue clothing. Writing “serve and protect” on their cars does not make them our servants or our protectors.

Why were the founders so afraid of a “standing army?” What did they DO about it? Did it work? What would one look like today, and what would it be called? How would it be justified or excused and would we, or more importantly, could we even DO anything about it?

Other than the perpetrator who beat up a policeman and then desired to return and beat him some more, no one else was shot or killed by the police. All the other shots came from the rioters, themselves, most of whom were not even from Ferguson.

I wasn’t specifically speaking of Ferguson, but in general. Certainly, what you say is true of Ferguson.

Shouldn’t the cops be allowed to defend society from clowns and outbreaks of the planet of the apes?

SWAT teams being used to “serve” routine warrants is out of control. Often, they burst into the wrong house, terrorizing innocent people.

KEEP IN MIND THOUGH EVENTS THAT ACTUALLY TRANSPIRED IN VENEZUELA SOME 10 YEARS AGO.

LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS IN THE CARACAS AREA WERE VISITED BY THE NATIONAL POLICE FORCE, THE BOLIVARIAN NATIONAL GUARD.

THE NATIONAL GUARD SEIZED ALL HEAVY TACTICAL WEAPONS AND SHOTGUNS FROM THE LOCAL POLICE LEAVING THEM ONLY WITH PISTOLS TO DEAL WITH THE LIKES OF DRUG TRAFFICKERS AND GANGS.

CRIME SKYROCKTED.

THE LOCAL POLICE FORCES WERE CONTROLLED BY LOCAL GOVERNMENTS NOT LOYAL TO HUGO CHAVEZ AND HIS CUBAN COMMUNINIST WANABEES.

WATCH WHERE THIS ARGUMENT AGAINST “MILITARIZED POLICE” MIGHT GO??????

IN VENEZUELA LOCAL POLICE WERE DISARMED SO THEY WOULD NOT BE A THREAT TO CHAVEZ AND HIS COMMUNIST RED SHIRT THUGS...

Some images from Ferguson that blow all this writer's words out of the water:

If you don't have some concerns about militarization of the police after looking at those, you need a gut check. Plenty is wrong on all sides of this issue.

Best commentary I've seen yet on the situation:

#Ferguson – when a**holes collide

There's probably something in there for everyone to agree with, and disagree with, but from a freedom and individual responsibility perspective.

“Assault style”

Just one of the many errors in this piece.

http://www.freep.com/article/20140817/NEWS06/140726001/

Database of military equipment transfers to police departments. These rifles are M16s. While the difference between fully automatic and semi-automatic is not known to the writer, it is not lost on citizens.
