algore?
From the article: We are not talking about a normal situation because there are so many other things happening due to climate change, Tung said.”
how does anyone know what “normal” is in geological time. We have a 3 billion year old earth (opinions vary)and with our very small sample size, and variation of methods and instruments we think we know what normal is? Please.
The water at greater depths is not warmer than the surface, it would just be warmer than the water normally would be at that depth.
No, it’s not due to currents, it’s due to contact. Heat naturally transfers from warmer medium to a cooler medium. If the surface of the water becomes warmer than what is underneath it, heat will transfer down. Not due to currents, but simple conduction.
Conduction will only transfer to greater depths when you have a greater heat source. However there is no greater heat source as global temperatures have not gone up for 18 years.
What they are describing in this article is bunk.
I also think global warming is BS, but several folks on this thread seem to think it is impossible for the depths of the ocean to get warmer via conduction. They subscribe to a “heat only moves up” theory. They don’t recognize that convection occurs in the atmosphere due to differing densities. They totally forget, for example, the ice forms *on top* of water because ice is less dense than the luquid.
It was hiding in plain sight.
Axiom: Man made global warming exists. Therefore, if we can’t find it, we need to make stuff up.
Hot salty water will sink under cooler water of lower salinity. The study I saw said that salinity is at record high levels, which means the process has not yet peaked and can likely accommodate much more heat input before it is overwhelmed. The ocean is what we scientists like to call “very big.”
This is a process that self regulates, and is yet more evidence that the Earth has several overlapping systems that keep temperatures relatively stable.
