Not odd at all, I think. Isis, but for Western money--buying oil, and therefore making the Arab Middle East something other than an impoverished h*llhole it was before we developed the oil industry there, would not be able to feed itself, let alone produce propaganda, buy weapons or exist at all.
Left by themselves these people will sink into the desperate pre-medieval subsistence economy, they've always had up until oil....
