Not so much, by joining a foreign military and taking up arms against the UK they have effectively taken an affirmative action to renounce their citizenship.
Under UK and American law the government can not strip you of your citizenship but you can loose it through your own actions.

Maybe. But what. Two crazed men with cleavers, a gun. Rigby was attacked and killed quickly, they attacked men who tried to intervene.
The British people don’t walk around with guns, even those of us who own them. We have little CC in the UK. And even then that’s a small amount of CC in Northern Ireland and a tiny amount on the mainland.
The criticism from the US seems to us to be perfect hindsight. Allied to a bit of BS bravado. Remember the US has its own history of people killed whilst others did nothing.

Any individual , and his entire family , should lose all rights to citizenship , be immediately deported , without appeal , en masse , and have all their properties permanently seized ; If found to be traveling abroad to join jihad .
Not only the jihadi terrorist , but his/her entire family should suffer these immediate repercussions.
Make it law , make it stick . Raise the ante for the families that spawn these monsters . They all must be made to pay .
Sure if they are in custody they will have a hearing to determine if they effectively renounced their citizenship.
If they are not in custody and sufficient evidence exists the hearing can take place in abstencia.
Again its their actions that strip them of their citizenship not the governments. Its the same if an American citizen naturalizes in Briton or France their American citizenship becomes null and void with out the US government doing anything.
Why doesn’t someone confront these types with a Koran, point out the passages that DEMAND killing of non-Muslims and every other atrocity Islam stands for, and ask them to explain it? Better yet, ask them to RIP OUT the pages that are ‘alien to Islam’. They won’t dare- they believe every word. ISIS IS ISLAM-pure,honest, deadly Islam!

As to the PNG if they find out who they are they can try them in absentia which is probably the wisesty thing to do. Then there’s no circus atmosphere to deal with. If guilty then strip them of their citizenship.
If someone volunteers to fight for a terrorist group, they have in fact renounced their loyalty to and citizenship in the country they have left. They are now and forever will be enemy combatants. They should not be allowed come back but be required to stay in the country/area they have chosen to align themselves with.
