A young girl, who claims she was standing up for her religious beliefs in the classroom, was suspended after breaking a class rule of saying “bless you” after a classmate sneezed.
When Dyer County High School senior Kendra Turner said bless you to her classmate, she says her teacher told her that was for church…
Students sent WMC Action News 5′s Michael Clark a photo of the teacher’s white board that lists ‘bless you’ and other expressions that are banned as part of class rules.

I think when someone sneezes, I would start saying “In God we trust”.
Is that allowed? 'Twould have been my response, as a less polite and mature teen.
Or the Spanish version: Que dios te bendiga
So, why did the teachers get her nose all out of joint?
The school likely would allow ‘In Allah We Trust’ so as not to offend.......
I think it may be very hot where these petty bureaucrats end up after life is over. VERY HOT and unpleasant.
Sorry, we heard you are offended by religion so we are immediately suspending your pay because we can’t find any money here without God’s name on it. If we find some, we’ll let you know.

I bet the teacher and everyone involved are feeling pretty embarrassed and stupid right now. Not including, of course, the fact that they have to scorn of a large percentage of the American population.
If she’d said “Gaia bless you” she’d have been fine.
These little fascist leftist in the classrooms, administration and on school boards need to be outed and scorned by their communities for the UN-American totalitarian disease they are spreading to children.

This is stupid. There are some things that are idioms and so ingrained in people’s automatic responses that you just say them without thinking about it. Saying “bless you” when somebody sneezes is one of those things. It’s a conditioned response. Making it punitive is asinine.
Shucks...... If she had of said "Satan bless you....", that probably would have been just fine. Think about it... if they are prepared to make such a big deal out of something as trivial as "bless you", how far are they prepared to take something to when it is far less trivial (by their definition of what is trivial)?
No she wasn’t. She disrupted the class room by arguing with the teacher. The teacher requires total silence in the classroom which includes responding to sneezes. Seem silly but I can see 30+ students deciding to shout out “Bless you” all at once and interrupting the class for several minutes. So from a teacher’s view point it is probably necessary to instill a total ban on talking. The point is that saying “God bless you” is not forbidden because it is “godly speaking”.
That is just stupid.
