Can we take another “better” mousetrap??
Security Updates to follow October 1st.........................
Remember the "launch" of Windows '95?
Does not bode well...
Ah, the Yugo of software steps up to the plate again.
From an "ease of use" and "eye candy" perspective, Windows 7 wins hands-down.
I use Windows 8 (With Classic Shell installed to disable the Charms menu and put a Windows 7 Start menu back) because I like Window's 8's speed and efficiency.
I still prefer the Windows 7 UI though.
My wish: Put the Windows 7 UI back (including Aeroglass) on top of Windows 8, while keeping the speed and efficiency of the Windows 8 kernel.
That would be a killer OS IMO.
This can only mean one thing : ALL WINDOWS 8 and 8.1 PRODUCTS ARE DEAD.
This includes the Surface Pro 3 Tablet/Laptop.
Please STOP Re-inventing the damn wheel.
He said it had a completely familiar look and feel, with all the controls just where they should be, absolutely rock solid, and virtually crash proof. He said we really have to give Microsoft credit because this time they actually listened and delivered exactly what the users wanted.
The only odd thing was when he peeled back the Windows 9 sticker on the box, it said Windows XP underneath?

Dang. I just built a 4770k system with windows 8.1. Now I have to throw it all away?
“...when he peeled back the Windows 9 sticker on the box, it said Windows XP underneath?”
...if there is a God this the case. A while back, someone posted here that MS could achieve hero status if the next release were “XP” with “2015” tacked on at the end. Just bring ‘er back and everyone wins.
I skipped 8 and see no reason why I’ll ever want to adopt 9.Windows XP served me well until a few years ago and 7 has been serving me well since.
You know absolutely nothing about cars. Making the comparison between Microsoft Windows to a Yugo couldn't be more incorrect.
Yugo's were the safest cars ever to be on the road. They had a near zero crash/fatality rate. They also got great gas mileage (hundreds of miles per gallon.)
You know why? Because Yugo's spent more time on the back of a tow truck than actually driving down the road.
Now, if you want to compare Microsoft Windows to a Car, anyone who knows cars (like I do ...) would tell you that Windows is like a 1970's era Ford Pinto.
That's right. A Ford Pinto. Pinto's blew up, Microsoft Windows "blows up." WTH do you think a BSOD is? The OS going KABOOM! Just like a Ford Pinto (when it was rear-ended of course.)
Memory Collision = BSOD. Rear End Collision = Blowing Up Ford Pinto.
Same thing.
Now back to CARS-101 for you! (/humor)
RE: Dang. I just built a 4770k system with windows 8.1. Now I have to throw it all away?
Or the hardware you built CAN be used for Windows 9. But we’ll see what happens next month.
Windows 9 will be to Windows 8 what Windows 7 was to Windows Vista.
Not a GREAT OS, but it will be such an improvement over the pile of shit they last released, it will seem like the greatest thing ever to most people!!
In all reality, Windows XP Professional still has all of the functionality that most home and the majority of business users need. You could almost say the same with Server 2003 on the Server side, but Server 2008 had enough additions over 2003 to make it a worthwhile deployment. Virtualization changed everything. I generally prefer VMware’s products over Microsoft’s in the area of virtualization.
Microsoft is basically treading water. They haven’t made any real innovations in YEARS(if not over a decade), every new thing they try has failed, and they are basically just sitting there - just waiting to be replaced by someone/something else. I suppose the ONLY REAL fairly recent success they had was with the XBox 360 gaming consoles, but with the latest offerings, Sony’s PS4 is blowing away Microsoft’s XBox ONE. (I own both, and prefer the PS4 by FAR)
Yup, now throw it in my direction and I'll recycle that outdated, outmoded hardware for ya. ;-)
