As I recall, Hostess closed down a few years back because operational costs and demands of the union made continuation of business impossible. There was I believe a bankruptcy

The Hostess brand and all the products were acquired from the bankruptcy court. I assume this plant was reopened but being in Chicago was still union and still failed.

Back to the topic of your post....... when I learned that Hostess was going out of business, I bought a package of Twinkies because I, like you, had never indulged. I paid for the experience but not for something worth eating

I saw a display rack full of Twinkies in Walmart last month, which surprised me enough to buy a package.

Unfortunately, my childhood memories of Twinkies are better than the 2014 version.

I guess some memories don't need to be updated and are best left alone.
