As I sit watching the wall to wall coverage of the events that are taking place in Ferguson, Missouri, I can’t help but wonder how different things might be if an African-American police officer had shot and killed an unarmed white teenager. If there were video evidence showing a hypothetical white teen stealing merchandise and strong arming a clerk in a convenience store prior to being shot, would the media coverage be anywhere close to what we are seeing?
I think not. The coverage would not be nearly as rabid. First of all the racial element would be non-existent. You would not have white civil rights leaders rushing to the scene and making statements and claims that hadn’t even been investigated. You more than likely would not have a rush to judgment, screaming for the police officers head before any of the facts were known. In a reverse scenario, I can envision that the teen would be identified as a punk or thug that had a troubled history and was a menace to the community and the police officer portrayed as just doing his job trying to protect the town.

It wouldn't even have made a paragraph on page D-12 of the local paper....
There would not have been one word of protest from the media.
What would have happened if Michael “Unarmed” Brown had NOT robbed the convenience store?
“Ferguson: What if positions were reversed?”
Why, crickets of course.

It would be relegated to the police blotter section.
I think he'd be called something different by today's press, maybe "Grand Wizard."
Why aren’t blacks upset about the blacks killed in Chicago?
I’d be glad that the cop’s all right and that a dangerous thug is off the streets forever. Skin color? It never would cross my mind. I have a clear understanding of right and wrong and am on the side of right, unconditionally.
That sure made his halo fall quick. Understand he has a criminal record, too. Just another Tray and son of Obama.
Actually, what I wonder about is:
• What would a resident of Ferguson have to say if they were attacked by a criminal (of ANY color) and police did not/ would not respond?
• What if police would cherry-pick the calls help or dilly-dally in their response to problems?
• What if police WOULD arrive, then refuse to contain the situation, for fear of litigation?
• If police are not effective, why should taxpayers pay SO much to recruit, train, pay and insure them?
• What happens to YOUR community when law enforcement procedures are ‘situational’?
Because it’s normal. Happens every day.
There aren't any. That would be called racism. So would the NAAWP and the congressional white caucus. If the roles were reversed, there would not have been even one second of media coverage.
I'm more interested in how to stop them. There is an alternative news media that eventually gets the truth out but the night crawlers in the mainstream media still call the tune for the most part, setting the context and controlling the discussion for the crucial first few days of an event (which is longer than the average person's ability to focus on it).
How can they be stopped?
The sad irony there is video of black officers shooting white teens and videos of groups of blacks attack white individuals. All one has to do is look for it on youtube. I found two this morning of a two black officers shoot a white individual. The white person was merely backing up from the black officers with guns drawn. Then you hear shots ring out and the white individual is on the ground and the two black officers stand over him. The other video is about a group of young black individuals attack a white guy. The video starts out as the young black men disperse like a pack of lions and surround their prey. One of the young black men finally confronts the white individual and when he no longer can escape the rest of the young black men converge as the video shows them all beating the white individual.
These videos are out there it’s not hypothetical in any sense of the word. They do in fact exist. Nary a peep from the media our duly elected officials about these.
