I just looked at the wikipedia article and yes it does look like the one pictured and titled “Spooky”.
Just remember where all those aircraft came from.
Thank Canada.
Think Avro Arrow heh.

The F-15, 16, 14, SR 71, B-52, B1 all came from Canada?
News to me.
In entirety or just parts?
Note: I love our Canadian FRiends.
F-16 Ping.
I spent three wonderful years on C-130B models. I was disappointed when I was first assigned to them, but it only took a short while to learn to love the airplane.
Somebody here commented about noisy. If you want noisy, hop a ride on a C-124. Hell, just the squeal of the brakes on taxi will deafen you, which is probably a good thing since you actually just “shake” your way to wherever you are going.
In those years I hit every continent except Australia and Antarctica and no matter where we went there never seemed to be a runway that was too short. In fact, sometimes we didn’t even have a runway! Believe me there are damn few machines that could do what a Herk could do and continues to do. Forty five years after my last flight I still remember the sound, the feel and the smell of those birds. God,I think I may cry a little. I love those birds.
The airframes, expertise, engines etc, the people... they were all snatched up after the Avro program got shut down for political reasons.
US couldn’t afford to not have produced the best aircraft the world had ever seen, it was during the cold war. As much as it sucked for Canada, I agree to an extent. I don’t agree how it was done, but it would look better if US was popping out the most technological airframes the world had seen.
That said, Canada and the US have been so intertwined in the aviation world anyways, we’ve all had our hands in the pot.
P.S. I love my American friends. (by Americans I mean real Americans, but that should go without saying heh).
I have read that Avro was absolutely full of Russian spies. The U.S. gave the Canadians F-101 Voodoo aircraft for free in exchange.
The Arrow’s performance was off the charts but it might not have been that good a fighter. I think the MIG 25 was pretty much the same plane and it was not a great overall fighter.
It wasn’t meant to be a fighter but an interceptor. Top speeds and everything were off the charts, it could turn and burn decent too. Basically, all our modern aircraft spawned off of it. I don’t doubt the Russian spy bit, as they’ve never had an original thought ever.
LOL!!
Thanks for the laugh!
These tests occurred in 1963 when the C-130 was being considered for COD (Carrier on Board Delivery) duty due to capacity and range. While the plane made multiple successful landings and take-offs, it was decided that it was just TOO big!
Here is another picture showing just how much deck space it took! Imagine it on an active deck with flight ops on-going (shudder!)
I can’t imagine the modifications that would be required to stow it below deck but I do know they would be tremendous.
If the Russians had spies at Avro Canada they must have been laughing pretty hard at the flying white elephant.
The Arrow Mk.2’s maximum continuous speed rating was Mach 1.9 when the Starfighter already held the FAI record at Mach 2.13. The Arrow Mark 2’s maximum service ceiling was 56,000 feet and the ferry range was 1254 nm. The aircraft had mediocre performance for the late fifties. Canada chose to cancel the $2 billion program to develop and produce 206 Arrows and bought nearly new Voodoos for $2 million each, including spare parts.
All the rest is liberal fantasy.
