(CBS/AP) – Workers at a state-of-the-art solar plant in the Mojave Desert have a name for birds that fly through the plant’s concentrated sun rays — “streamers,” for the smoke plume that comes from birds that ignite in midair.

Exactly. Liberal policies are not based on reality but on how good it makes them feel, even if the policy can be shown to be a total disaster.

It’s going to be a silent spring with no chirp, chirp chirping the little birds bring.

“The Birds are plotting their revenge. “

What an opportunity to fry PETA and the Sierra Club. Sue them for committing fraud against all their donors.

Forget friend of the court. “I want my 5 dollars back.” imagine a million people wanting theirs donations back. Oh,the lawsuit would be grand.

I prefer the taste of chopped bat from windmills.

HEY the Bat Lady says, "that's not funny!" lol

But really what they should BE FORCED TO DO is put up a fence to keep the birds from flying over. A few thousand feet high aught to do it. :)

Now their hopes and dreams could be dashed by their own murderous invention that I helped to pay for against my will.

Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. This is a liberal dream, so any negative repurcussions will be excused and ignored. Now had the Koch brothers been involved, or a state TEA party group, then calls would be going out far and wide to have it shut down immediately and criminal investigations launched.

Imagine any major construction project where its environmental impact statement said thousands of birds would be killed if it were built. Environmentalists would demand it be stopped, protests of every kind would be organized and the law suits would block construction. However, this solar plant, not to mention the thousands of ugly windmills that become bird blenders, are allowed to be built without so much as a peep from environmentalists. The much vilified Keystone Pipeline in comparison would have an insignificant impact on wildlife.

Just drove by there on my way to Vegas. They’re in the process of building a visitor center and fried bird restaurant.

And in other news, house cats across the nation and across the whole world have killed thousands or tens of thousands of birds today.

The biologists flip out if you even cast a shadow on the water if your building a bridge over it!

It scares the fish don’t you know!

But don’t dare mess with the delta smelt! Better that farmers go broke and food prices escalate.

Lots of mediocre wit posted amid a few ridiculous statements.

The “Only reason” is liberal self righteousness. Tell that to NRG energy whose profits increased significantly this year as the plant came online.

Study up a bit about mercury poisoning, and the warnings on consuming fish. Mercury poisoning is a very REAL health problem. U.S. coal plants release about 75 tons of mercury per year. It is estimated that this causes neurological problems in 60,000 U.S. children born every year. The Ivanpah plant is expected to produce about 1TWh of electricity per year which if it were coal would use over 500,000 tons of coal.

BTW - DDT is dangerous to developing children and adults. Forget the birds. Maybe you should also research that. See the connection to polio here. http://www.ageofautism.com/2011/09/the-age-of-polio-how-an-old-virus-and-new-toxins-triggered-a-man-made-epidemic-1.html

Nearly a hundred years ago, in spite of the significant amount of evidence of its dangers, idiots approved lead in gasoline with the same kind of statements. Of course it was finally banned and recognized as dangerous after millions suffered from its effects and the people responsible were dead and could not be held accountable.
