Many years ago I worked with a WWII Vet. He was very NRA (as I was) and he once said that we all have to go back to the Wild West where all men carried 2 pistols. I asked, “...and what about the criminals, wouldn’t that be dangerous to society”? He replied, “They’d be the first to go”.
When people whine about "lynchings" in the past, the implicit assumption is that the people who were lynched were innocents.
