The EuroMaidan was itself, not necessarily a Pro-EU movement (joining the EU is seen as being an economic issue, not one that divides ideologically, hence people from all spectrums of Ukraine, some better than others, protested) but was an anti-corruption phenomena, which did not kick off when Yanukovych refused to sign the EU treaty, but, rather, when Yanukovych sent people in to beat and torture the small number of young and old Ukrainians alike who were protesting at the Maidan. (In Ukraine, such protesting on Maidan is so common that, had the state not done anything, it would have been forgotten.)
While Ukraine has its problems, and they are conscious of them and are seeking to fix them, Russia is a Kleptocracy with no real freedom for anybody. It is a brutal tyranny where anyone who opposes the state is persecuted, beaten, tortured, imprisoned, and if they aren't lucky, murdered.
You cannot compare this to the Ukrainians who are fighting for freedom against decades of Soviet-imported Kleptocracy.
