Why is the US heard shrinking ? Govt. farming regulations? If I was to guess, the farmers probably make more money selling feed corn for ethanol than to use it as feed for their herds.
But that is a guess on my part.

Cost of corn, but mostly the drought a couple of years ago causing farmers to send more cows to slaughter than usual.
