First lady Michelle Obama’s lunch room mandates for schools around the nation have now received a bit of a public relations boost from retired admirals and generals who say: They’re not a bad idea.

Mission:Readiness — a consortium of about 500 retired and former members of the military who held high-ranking posts — is poised to “storm the Hill” when Congress comes back from break in hopes of persuading lawmakers to keep the first lady’s lunch room standards in operation, Politico reported.

“We’re not going to retreat our way out of the problem,” said Lt. Gen. Normal Seip, who served in the Air Force for 35 years, Politico reported.

“Some pensions must be on the line.”

Pensions and the access that allows them to have nice six-figure jobs with gov’t contractors.

Why worry about what they eat? Feed them what will be consumed and put Physical Education back in school grades 1-11.

They are removing the playgrounds because they are too dangerous for the children...

LOL I spent considerable time as a kid being sewn up mainly due to my lack of coordination. But it didn't slow me down otherwise :>} Dangerous isn't a playground. Dangerous is having a buddy hold a car tire upright while you crawl inside it before he rolls it down a hill :>} But kids will be kids.

Military morale must be so low that even the Generals and Admirals have given up on retention. Hell, I think they have even given up on combat readiness.

That may be true. However, the article indicates these guys are all retired. WHY are they doing this?

It may have to do with lucrative Government contracting jobs. The retired flag ranks are famous for that.

cva66snipe, that is an outstanding post. Bullseye!

PE and Recess are the key to health. Every diet plan you ever see, ALWAYS sneaks in the back door — after they talk about their pills, or their carbs, or their low fat — something about a minimum of 30 minutes a day vigorous walking.

That’s why America’s couch potatoes get in shape so fast in basic training. The drill sergeants force them to run 3-4 miles a day, other PT, and then the incessant walking everyplace they go. The next thing you know you’ve got lean, mean wannabe warriors. They get proud of that fast!

Instead, we get rid of the very thing in school that will TEACH them the right way to live...PT and recess. We indulge the xbox generation, and then they go home and dream of being that fit, trim warrior on their xbox screen, and they don’t have a clue how to get there.

Bring back PT & Recess...DUMP the Mooch Meal Plan.

I doubt they’ll ever do that. An MRE has enough calories for a grown man for an entire day of high activity.

Guys in Iraq who didn’t have strenuous jobs got quite plump from eating MRE’s.
