They are protecting the front lines in the Kurdish capital Erbil, a place full of five-star hotels centuries away from their own impoverished lives, and full of western investment that needs to be saved.

The video I saw sure looked like the water bottle packs they were throwing out would break. No parachute... if 50% survived I would of been surprised.
Our supplies were not parachuted in.
The water was in long tube like bags that mostly survived the impact,but not always.

My guess is they lack the skill set and institutional knowledge but their heart is in the correct location.
