Lt. Boyd said Williams was found in his bedroom “clothed, in a seated position, unresponsive with a belt secured around his neck.”

There were also several cuts on his left wrist and a pocket knife with a dried red substance was found in the vicinity, he stated.

The Academy-Award winner was 63.

“The work of the coroner’s office is not complete at this time,” Lt. Boyd stressed. He said a final cause of death would be released in several weeks after toxicology tests are completed.

“The forensic examination conducted by Dr. Joseph Cohen did not [indicate]…that Mr. Williams had been in a struggle prior to him being diseased,” he added.

Are you saying that only non-believers are clinically depressed? Brother, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Depression can destroy the strongest mind.
It is pure, literal evil.
Prayers for his soul and for his family.

Bipolar is treatable.

It is nice to think that, but the truth is often different.

Some people just cannot take the medicines for it - it quickly starts to affect their livers, kidneys, reflexes, or other functions.

Many, but men especially, can't take the sexual side effects. The effects often subside, but waiting them out is more than many can tolerate.

The longer one is on the medicines, the more of a chance that the medicines stop working. For reasons no one really seems to know, sometimes, the meds simple stop being effective. So what worked today may cease working in the future.

Finally, many patients have what is called treatment-refractory depression - untreatable with medicine.

In fact, only about half of the people in treatment see total remission with medicines. Cognitive therapy takes years, is expensive, and the patient needs to be at least somewhat stable and cooperative.

Those are still choices that they are making....most with Bi-Polar chose not to co-operate one way or another. And oftentimes with the knowledge of the potential outcomes for making those choices.

I guess they are just doomed then. Why bother with them?

Cancer is a disease. Depression is a mental disorder. Allowing God to come into your life is the answer to all mental disorders.

Have you thought about going down to the local VA hospital and sharing your wisdom with the soldiers who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?

I'm sure that they and their families would appreciate hearing that they simply haven't loved the Lord enough and aren't really sick.

No, they aren't making choices. If you think with every fiber of your being that the medicine will hurt you, you aren't rationally choosing not to be treated. You are making what seems (to you) to be a good decision, but it isn't based on rational thought. They didn't choose to think this way. They didn't choose to have this disease. They aren't always able to choose to get better.

Depression is the worst thing I can think of - you cannot reason your way out of it.

I don’t care what they’re level of thinking is...if it’s that bad then they need to be in an institute for obviously they are not ‘sane’ enough to be making decisions.

You need to go down to the VA hospital, too! Tell those shell-shocked fakers with so-called PTSD that it's all in their heads, that they're doomed, and to stop wasting valuable resources. They're not depressed! They're stealing your tax money!

They could get right up and fix this if they wanted to, right? Surely they need you to tell them that they're tax-wasting slackers who just don't want to get better.

What are you waiting for? The world needs your wisdom.

From the article: Mr. Williams had been in a struggle prior to him being diseased,” he added.

No, he was not DISEASED. He was DECEASED. Horrible spell check error? Or just plan careless editing?

I am just guessing, but though bipolar is treatable, the medication tends to modulate mood swings both directions. He may have avoided medication for fear of losing his ability his manic entertainment persona.

After a couple of days of over the top media, I came to the conclusion that people have overblown the problem Williams had.

The guy was heavy into drugs and booze for a long time, he was hyper. He may have come clean for a number of years while his career and the limelight was on him, but he was aging. The phone didn’t ring as much, his money was dwindling, the big offers no longer came and he was back to managing all that without his crutches. I figure he was craving those crutches because they helped, in his mind, handle the depression. The thought of going on and fading into nothingness drug and alcohol free was too much. Rehab had nothing to offer him.

Many people like him have successful careers, and when ole man time sets in, they have other interests like painting, starting a restaurant or business, his career was about all he had it seems.

Funny how for the last two days, all those folks that “loved” him are coming out of the woodwork to own him. But were they all there that much, or did he not let them in. Who knows?

How could that happen if you’re living in the same house? What kind of marriage is that?

They have a very large house. In Tiburon, an exclusive, expensive suburb, large houses are the norm.

Maybe a wonderful, loving wife, but there's just so much any wife/husband can do when the partner is in a depressive and/or drug-addled funk. Almost surely, she didn't cause it and quite definitely, she couldn't cure it.

Everyone is a victim these days.

There is no evidence he was manic, only depressed.

Those of us who have never experienced real depression are very, very lucky. We have lots to be grateful for.
