Obama using Americans in Iraq as ‘collateral’ to maintain Dem support for airstrikes?
Hot Air ^ | August 12,2014 | NOAH ROTHMAN

A grotesque accusation surfaced in the Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday. It is an unconfirmed claim, and is so repulsive that the source of this assertion refused to reveal his or her identity to WFB’s Adam Kredo. It is, nevertheless, conceivable that, as this source claims, President Barack Obama is balking at evacuating American diplomatic personnel from Iraq in order to maintain support among the American left for airstrikes against ISIS targets.

“The administration is saying that they’re going to authorize air strikes if ISIS gets close to U.S. personal or stationed personal, which in [our] mind, if there is a threat in the region you get your people out unless they’re military,” the Senate source told WFB.

And then came this startling claim:

This rationale from the White House is leading some to speculate that U.S. personnel in the region are being left in harm’s way “as collateral” because the Obama administration “can’t get his party and donor base to support further action in Iraq,” according to the source.

“That’s where a lot of the confusion is coming from” on Capitol Hill, the source added. “When there’s an imminent threat you get your civilian employees out of the region.” It is startling to imply that the President of the United States is keeping Americans in the line of fire in order to compel his political allies to back military action in Iraq over their natural objections. While that is not impossible, it is a rather abhorrent suggestion. The president could dispel some of these rumors if he made a full-throated case for intervention in Iraq, but his tentative and hesitant approach to the crisis is inviting this kind of morale-sapping speculation.

Obama using Americans as fodder? Why would that be so hard to imagine - he’s contemptuous of Americans.

Forget Benghazi, that was a few punks compared to ISIS. This could shape up to be more like the Iranian hostage crisis, if our idiot President keeps going like this.

I do not buy this for a minute. We all know that at least 89% of all Democrats would support Lord Obama on anything and I do mean anything. The only ones that might even question him would be the few running in red or purple states, but when push comes to shove, they will jump right back in line.
No, this story is just a fig newton of someone’s imagination.

obama left over 40 men to die in Benghazi. It was only luck and the sacrifice of 4 men that saved the others. obama would do anything including killing several hundred Mexican people with weapons he gave the drug cartels to get want he and the democrat party want.

Not hard to imagine per se, but politically dangerous if it goes bad. "I tried to save them, honest... I ordered a dozen airplane sorties..." /S

Contacts tell me that the bulk of the SF forces sent to Iraq have been Reservists and National Guard SF. That doesn’t include the Marines. It may be that there are few diplomates remaining now.

And I bet they don’t have even the faintest clue what’s going on around them as long as they have EBT cards, free housing and healthcare, game consoles, and marijuana or crack...

The air strikes are occurring up north, near Irbil (aka Arbil, Erbil, etc.) not south, around our embassy. Our folks in Irbil are rather ‘resourceful’ and don’t require State Dept. or even WH support.

IMO the WH and Dems are out of the loop on the IS bombings. They’re just chiming in to take some sort of ‘prevent genocide’ credit. I think the reality is more like “this is what we’re going to do ...how you deal with it is up to you”.

You know what? Obozo is too consumed with his golf vacation to think to this level of detail and political calculation. It's gotta be ValJar or some other evil in the bowels of this administration calling the shots on Obozo's behalf on this one.

At the end of the day however, it is still his responsibility and history will judge him as the US President who lost the Middle East.
