Being divorced twice, an adulterer, a sufferer of herpes simplex, and tens of millions of dollars in debt tends to do that to a person.
That's basically what comedians do - people laugh when they expect to see zig and instead they see zag.

I agree. Suicide is never right, but if your brain chemistry goes hay-wire, and neurons bouncing around where they shouldn't be going - there cannot be anything worse. You cannot run, hide, or escape the pain and utter despair. And if your brain is keeping you from running to Christ ... I cannot imagine the hopelessness. And with Satan whispering in your ear to end the pain - sure.
Suicide is never right, but like you say, I can only pray for the loved ones that are left behind, and hope in his/her final moments they were able to see through the haze and find the Rock and hold on to Him.

It is sad that Williams never knew the global affection for him that has come forth after his death. He was a brilliant man who made us both laugh and in his dramatic roles touched us.

Excellent description of depression. It is insidious and overwhelming. It has been decades since I suffered from depression but I remember those awful feelings.

You don’t know what you’d do if you were in that state. I believe that, at that point of despair, you would be thinking about is finding relief. You won’t be thinking about the impact of your actions on your loved ones except that your family and friends would be better off without you.
It’s not true only for comedians, but entertainers in general. Most of them have a pathological need for attention due to unresolved emotional issues.
When a person is smart enough and old enough to see the heart of man and his fate - but is unwilling to accept Christ’s Grace, suicide will be the likely outcome.
I think this happens with a lot of “above average intelligence” people as they age. Look at Ecclesiastes. It’s Solomon as an old man, full of wisdom. After getting the chicks, the cars, the private jets, the villa in the Alps, he realizes it is ALL a chasing after the wind. But then the zinger is in the last paragraph:
Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.
If one is at the same level Solomon was at and refuses to accept that last paragraph, suicide is the logical next step. It would be for me, and I’m only 60.
As Paul said in 1 Corinthians,
“For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.”
And...
“What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, ‘Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.’”
Of course am no fan of his political views but the man did some great work with the USO over the years.
He had respect for the troops, that’s for certain.

Your words are so true and brought tears to my eyes. I lost a close family member to suicide.
I choose to believe that, as he was passing, his illness fell away and he ran straight into the Arms of our Savior.
