After a month of assaults and threats from the D.C. political class, venerable drug retailer Walgreen Co. announced it will remain headquartered in Illinois for the time being instead of entering a tax-inversion merger with Europe's Alliance Boots that would move it abroad to lower its tax bill.
Good news for Washington, but the millions of Walgreen shareholders aren't partying it up.
Walgreen lowered its expected earnings about 20%, or nearly $2 billion, annually by 2016. Shares of Walgreen buckled as much as 8.5% after its news hit the tape Tuesday afternoon, and gapped down an additional 17% at Wednesday's open before closing at $59.21, off $9.91, or 14%, on 13 times average volume. ....
Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the new intimidator in chief, played a lead role in the Walgreen shakedown.
Late last month, he wrote a stunning letter to CEO Gregory Wasson warning Walgreen not to "turn its back" on the U.S. through what he called a "positively un-American tax dodge."
Pointing out that the company's slogan is "at the corner of healthy and happy," Durbin mockingly wondered if the "corner of healthy and happy (is) in the Swiss Alps?"
He also warned that "deeply patriotic customers" may not come back and that $2.5 billion of company profit from U.S. sales could be in jeopardy.
The second-ranking Democrat in the Senate power structure wasn't done.
"Much of Walgreen's financial success," he claimed in a not-so-veiled threat, "was built on programs and infrastructure provided by the U.S. government" — the infamous "you didn't build it" argument Barack Obama used to chastise businesses during the 2012 campaign.
Durbin added that "the future success of Walgreen will continue to depend on U.S. taxpayers and government-funded programs."

Durbin is another one of those guys I want to run into at the airport.
The tax-mad liberals just cannot stand it when another big name wants to leave the country to evade their endless fiscal oppression. For liberals, their kingdom is a one-way street.

Lerner used her FEC govt position and tax dollars to conduct a bogus inquisition into Durbin's opponent for alleged election law violations ....creating a shady charge against Durbin's opponent. And it worked. Dicky triumphed and was returned to the Senate.

Fast forward to 2014---Dicky Durbin's running again---considered a shoo-in. But he should start worrying. As far back as 2008, at the presidential debate in Nashville, candidate Obama advanced his signature plan that was ultimately enacted (by an historic straight Democrat party-line vote) into the "Affordable Care Act:
QUOTING OBAMA: "No. 1, let me just repeat, if you’ve got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it. All I’m going to do is help you to lower the premiums on it. You’ll still have choice of doctor.”
Repeated over and over ---- with the "presidential promise" that every American would be saving $2500.00 on healthcare costs.

SEN DURBIN AND IMMIGRATION REFORM Back in June, Durbin whined that a year has passed since he and his fellow Democrats Senators passed a sweeping immigration reform bill (that included hundreds of millions of dollars for La Raza, and made latino office-holders exempt from US laws for committing crimes in office). Durbin said. "And (if Republicans don't respond), the president will borrow the power that is needed to solve the problems of immigration."
And this week, Durbin said: "More Needs To Be Done To Help Child Immigrants at the border"

Sen Durbin addressed thousands during the People’s Mass at Fiesta Del Sol in honor of Dreamers, immigrants and the 47,000 Central American children invading the US ---being held at detention centers. Durbin assured the Illinois Latino community they will not turn their backs on children who are fleeing a dangerous situation.
“We are here today at Fiesta Del Sol. This is a Mass dedicated to the dreamers. The action that was taken by the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday was reprehensible. This idea of calling for the deportation of these young men and women is cruel,” Durbin said.
Durbin says more should be done to help children crossing the border into the U.S. on their own. “These are young men and women who have come to the United States not by their own choice, who have lived here, they have lived in the United States and now they are asking for a chance to prove themselves.”
Walgreens staying?
Well, that should end the Freeper attacks and boycotts.
Mr. Durbin seems to be more interested in helping people in committing illegal acts than he does to help legitimate businesses in the state of Illinois. He wouldn’t last long in a fair,honest election,if one could be found in that stae.
