SSI, Supplemental Security Income, is funded from the General Revenue Fund (the Federal budger) not Social Security. It's a "needs based" program. So, basically, it's welfare.

No way will it make SS more solvent. SSI is funded from general revenues. At a cost of $54 billion in fiscal year 2013 8.4 million people collected SSI benefits (Dec 2013). The SSA administers the program.

How about we end the entire damned thing. There’s ZERO constitutional authority for the Feds to run this scheme.
