Inaction in Syria leads to Obama’s Iraq quagmire

While President Obama is physically surrounded by water, soaking up sun and sand, his foreign policy is under heavy siege as critics pound the administration from all sides. The commander-in-chief’s limited military moves to stifle the Islamist extremists in Iraq, which many Republicans say are mere pinpricks and Democrats worry will escalate U.S involvement, can be credibly linked to the White House’s inaction in the Syrian civil war. And on that point – Syria – former secretary of state and Democratic 2016 frontrunner Hillary Clinton unloaded on her former boss’s “failure to help build up a credible fighting force,” creating a “vacuum” filled by the extremists now wreaking havoc in the region.

So how could 0bama's preference to SUPPORT ISIS in Syria (that was thwarted by Congress) have helped SUPPRESS ISIS in Iraq?

How does failure to bomb the Syrian government which was presumably killing Isis somehow enable Isis to invade Iraq?

The author’s point is that we failed to support the liberal democrat pluralist secular Arabs in Syria?

If they all met for tea, you’d only need four chairs.

I guess that they figure if Obama had helped bomb Assad, ISIS would have been satisfied with Syria and wouldn’t have invaded Iraq.

She went on to jab at her former boss noting his failure to arm Syrian rebels combating President Bashar al-Assad, “…You have more than 170,000 people dead in Syria,” Clinton said. “You have the vacuum that has been created by the relentless assault by Assad on his own population, an assault that has bred these extremist groups, the most well-known of which, ISIS—or ISIL—is now literally expanding its territory inside Syria and inside Iraq.”

I believe she’s wrong. I believe ISIS comes more from the rebels that Obama, Hillary, and McCain have been trying to arm. It is not Assad forces taking over parts of Syria and Iraq.

Exactly! Obama, Hillary, and McCain were all on the wrong side in Syria. Assad may be a bad guy but they were supporting people that are much worse.

Under Assad, Syria was one of the few safe places for Christians. It wasn’t Assad’s forces that overthrew the Christian city of Mosul. Assad has protected Christians in Mosul for decades.

The folks making the “we need to help the moderates” argument, should be forced to name one instance of “moderates” taking over (sans US ground forces) once the existing rulers have been over thrown. Name one instance. The “moderate” argument is BS.

“Moderates” overthrew the Czar, but the Bolsheviks ultimately gained the power.

Yeah, I should have made it clearer that I was referencing the Islamic world. I thought about putting that in my comment but I figured everyone would understand what I meant. Thanks for giving me a reason to clarify my comment. :)

It’s the same in every Revolution, Iran, Cuba, etc. The most ruthless are the ones who win.
