I think it’s good that he was still convicted but it’s kind of funny that someone people consider to be one of the worst murderers in history didn’t actually spill any blood himself.

That is actually one of the reasons he is considered so.

To kill someone yourself that is natural, to convince others to do your killing for you is unusual and unnatural.

Or, at any rate, he was never convicted of spilling any blood himself. There is evidence he and a couple of his cohorts tortured one or more people to death at the ranch.
