Military Coup Rocks Iraq
Pundit Press ^ | 8/10/2014 | by Thomas Ferdousi

Iraq’s parliament just chose a new President who refused to rename Prime Minister Nouri Kamal al-Maliki to a third term. Maliki declared the move unconstitutional and his own State of Law Party pulled support from him. Now his forces are seizing government buildings in Iraq, have closed the airport, and are surrounding the Green Zone.

My apologies. Given your reference to WWII, I was supposing you were blaming us for the geographic and demographic State of Iraq, a fiction created by the Brits and French to keep the Sunnis, Shia and Kurds at each others’ throats in favor of the colonialist power.

335 Say what you will but Saddam killed almost exclusively Muslims until we got involved in Desert Storm.

I remember having mixed feelings about the Iraq-Iran War. I wasn't overly happy about POTUS #40 RWR covertly supporting Iraq because that sort of activity seems to eventually bite us/U.S. in the a** - see history of Iran/Shah of Iran after WWII and POTUS #39 JEC. But of course, I could also see that it was Muslims killing Muslims (after the U.S. Embassy siege in Teheran) on a large scale, so how bad could that be?

Then we had Iran Contra under POTUS #40 RWR, and then the fiasco of U.S. Ambassador April Glaspie, under POTUS #41 GHWB, counseling with Sadaam Hussein in 1989 - the first woman to be appointed an American ambassador to an Arab country. Despite the official U.S. State Dept. version, I still believe that Sadaam Hussein got the impression from Glaspie that the U.S. would silently assent to his invasion of Kuwait. Afterall, the U.S. supported him in the 8-year war with Iran.

We have to, at the least, bomb ISIS in Iraq. We will lose our souls if we don't. But, we will accelerate the loss of our nation under POTUS #44 BHO because of the spending and his desire to collapse the U.S. as the world's last superpower. I cannot belive that BHO will even come close to doing the right thing in the Middle East. How can we expect the pointed-end of our military stick to function when we have such huge reservations about the CIC?

Trust in God is the only answer. I am heartbroken that we are witnessing a repeat of the 2nd-3rd century Christian persecutions by Rome and 7th-8th Christian persecutions by the moon god/ black rock of Mecca followers of Mad Mo.

I think many of us on FR have long expected to see jihadist fallout in the U.S. from our defenselss southern border. POTUS #44 BHO has certainly done his part to enable them.

The coup that never happened?

It looks to me as if we’ve been suckered big time on this one.

So maybe it’s time to take this thread down?

Or at least change the title to:

“What if they gave a coup and nobody came?”

As long as Saudis own the American presidency, nothing’s going to happen to the Saudis.

Saudi Arabia is Mordor.

As much as crap has hit the fan I am still a firm believer that we accomplished the mission in spades. We got radical Sunni’s killing radical Shiites and vice versa in droves. It’s exactly what we wanted and it’s exactly what we are going to get for a long time.

Moreover, we will never have to deal with Saddam’s psychopatic and sociopathic sons Uday and Kusay.

On the contrary the Turks want stability which the Kurds have provided. A Kurd was one of the 3 candidates for the recent election that put Erdowan back in power. A pipeline has been built and is in operation moving oil from Kurdish territory through Turkey. Kurds are in 5 countries. After the US bombing of ISIS/ISIL, some refugees on the mountain were able to walk the 12 miles to a Kurdish area of Syria where they were picked up by Syrian Kurds and taken to a pontoon bridge leading back into safe Kurdish territory. It’s complicated, study more.

And how much can we blame further back when the CIA engineered the overthrow of elected Mosadegh and the installation of the rich ostentatious Shah and Savak? That got us the Ayatollah.

“Unfortunately, we have no one in the State department who understands history or strategy, and haven’t since WWII.”

George Schultz was a good SecState during the Reagan administration. At 93, he still writes sensibly about the economy and foreign policy:
