So, a lot of those civilian casualties in Gaza were young men in their 20s…

The lopsided death toll in the conflict in Gaza, which appears to be resuming following the conclusion of fruitless peace negotiations, has prompted many Western commentators to condemn Israel’s prosecution of that conflict. Even United States officials have urged Israel to observe even more “restraint,” well beyond the lengths the Israeli Defense Forces already go to in order to minimize civilian deaths.

Since the start of the conflict on August 6, according to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), 1,843 Palestinians had died in this conflict, many of whom were civilians. 66 Israelis lost their lives in the fighting, and nearly all of them have been soldiers.

But a number of news organizations have been attempting to quantify the precise number of civilians killed over the course of the conflict in Gaza. An interesting result of one such investigation was to determine that young men of fighting age were disproportionately represented among the Palestinian dead.

Via the BBC:

An analysis by the New York Times looked at the names of 1,431 casualties and found that “the population most likely to be militants, men ages 20 to 29, is also the most overrepresented in the death toll. They are 9% of Gaza’s 1.7 million residents, but 34% of those killed whose ages were provided.”

“At the same time, women and children under 15, the least likely to be legitimate targets, were the most underrepresented, making up 71% of the population and 33% of the known-age casualties.”

A similar investigation conducted by Al Jazeera came up with the same conclusion: young men in their 20s were vastly overrepresented in the Palestinian death toll.

An Israeli spokesman told BBC reporters that the United Nations’ figure is based on numbers provided by the Gaza health ministry which is operated by Hamas. “He said that part of the reason for the discrepancy between the figures was ‘when militants are brought to hospitals, they are brought in civilian clothing, obscuring terrorist affiliations,’” the BBC reported.

The implicit condemnation of Israel which so many news organizations allowed themselves to engage in now looks more than a little misguided. Perhaps the press should not have taken the United Nations and Hamas entirely at its word, considering their status as a U.S.-designated terrorist group and all.

This simple statistical analysis is a lot more convincing than the Obama DOJ’s search for “disparate impact.” /S

The lopsided death toll in the conflict in Gaza is because

a. Israel has hundreds of deep concrete bomb shelters,
b. Gaza has ZERO bomb shelters but 1`000`s of terrorist
tunnels.
c. Gazanians love to stand in the streets and watch when
bombs are falling [cf videos on youtube]

Here is a long readers comment I found today on an Israeli website. It’s actually quite good.

A suggested inauguration speech for a new PM of Israel

You can’t eliminate the enemy until Israel forces out their own enemies in the Knesset. I don’t care what the security cabinet and Mossad know that they are not sharing with their citizens, because it is not their decision how to protect Jews. They are required to carry out the will of the Jewish people and that will is very simple; stop fucking with us, stop killing us, stop trying to kill us, and get out of our country and Holy Land.

Israel must elect a government that has a clear and decisive mandate.
Here is a suggested inauguration speech for the new PM of Israel:

1. To the entire world, if you allow Jews living in or visiting your countries to be harmed in any way, Israel WILL take revenge, in your countries, upon the perpetrators. Israel reserves the right to decide on what type of revenge that will be. Targeted killings, or abductions to be brought to Israel for trial, the choice is OURS, not yours. Violent attacks on synagogues and other Jewish centers or groups will be met with swift and cold-blooded vengeance. We will hunt down the perpetrators wherever they are, and execute them. We’ve done it before, and we will do it again. Don’t test us.

2. To our neighbors, stop your shit, or we are going to wipe YOU off the map. You know we can, and we will.

3. To the media, freedom of the press doesn’t mean freedom to lie and incite hatred and violence. Journalists who misbehave will be immediately expelled and agencies that print lies will be banned from Israel. Freedom of the press is a fundamental characteristic of Israel, lying is not. Go sell your bullshit somewhere else.

3.1 Knessest immunity is hereby abolished. MK’s who incite violence or work against the state, whether Jewish or not, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

4. To Gaza and the residents of J & S. This is your last chance;.

You may have a state, on our terms, not yours. The time for negotiating on your terms was wasted by you and you alone. Your state will be in J & S, and we will exchange Gaza for other land next to J & S. The notion of a state that comprises Gaza and J & S that has Israel running through it is ridiculous and unworkable and an intolerable security threat. We will build your state with international funding and we will share all our technology with you, except military technology or any technology that can be used to harm Jews. You will not be in charge of your own airspace or borders until we decide and you have proven that you can be trusted to not fly planes into Israeli buildings or send suicide murderers into Israel. Expect about 30 - 50 years before we hand over the borders and airspace to you. Unfortunately you have proven that you cannot accept or tolerate freedom, democracy and peace, so we will impose it upon you with the least amount of inconvenience possible. You must understand and accept that Israel is a sovereign country with borders, and therefore you have no right whatsoever to enter Israel unless we allow you to, as is the case with every other country. Ever heard of a visa? You do not dictate terms to us. We will build you a viable and sustainable economy, using international funds, not our own, and we will trade with you and you are encouraged to trade with us.

But, and let us be crystal clear on this, Israel is not going to allow any of you to “return”, or visit, unless you meet our visa requirements. You will also not be permitted to have any type of military whatsoever, not even tear gas. Your newly built country and economy negates any reason you may have to enter Israeli territory, and your territory will be protected by the IDF against foreign invasion, therefore you have no need for an army. We decide what materials are allowed into your state and we monitor what you are using them for. If you do not have any ill-intentions towards us, this shouldn’t be a problem for you. It can only be a problem if you wish to smuggle weapons in. Like drug dealers can’t complain that Customs Officials are inspecting their cargo, you can’t complain that we are inspecting yours.

4.1 Only Jews, and citizens of Israel, have any type of right to the land of Israel. African infiltrators and any other illegals will be deported in their entirety. Israel is not an open house for the world to dump their shit in.

4.2 There is no refugee problem. Refugee status is neither genetic nor hereditary, nor contagious, nor a right. Arabs living in refugee camps can move to their new state or any other country that wants them, but not Israel. End of discussion.

5. Jerusalem, in her glorious and holy entirety, remains the Jewish Capital. End of story, not open for discussion.

6. The Mosque sitting on our Holy Temple Site will be relocated to a place of your choosing, outside of Israel. If you want it in Israel, we decide if we like your chosen spot or not. It is being dismantled and moved. Israel is OUR land, not yours. All nations are permitted to visit our Holy Sites. End of discussion.

7. Once this deal is signed and construction of your new state has begun, it needs to be understood and acknowledged, without any shadow of a doubt in the minds of the Arab people living in Gaza and J & S, as well as every other nation in the world, that if following this agreement, one rocket is fired into Israel, one tunnel is built, one person blows himself up, or there is even an attempt to harm Israel, her citizens, or any other Jews, whether inside Israel or not, the IDF will immediately move into Gaza and J&S, expel all residents, eliminate all armed resistance, and incorporate those areas into the new borders of Israel. End of discussion.

8. To Hezbollah and Hamas, disarm within 60 days, or we will disarm you. There will be no ground invasion this time. Your entire geographical areas will be turned into wastelands by the IAF. End of discussion.

9. To Iran, you have 60 days to disarm your nuclear weapons program, or we will disarm it for you and eliminate your entire leadership. End of discussion. If we are forced to use the nuclear option, we will.

10. To Syria, keep up the status quo, keep away from nuclear or other unconventional weapons programs, and you won’t hear from us.

11. To ISIS, stay away from us and we will stay away from you. Make sure your current marches don’t reach our borders. Israel is happy to take the Christians you don’t want in exchange for Arabs in Gaza and J & S who wish to live under Sharia law.

12. UNWRA is hereby banned from Israel.

12.1 The Death Penalty Act will be passed enabling the courts to impose the death penalty for, inter alia, treason, terrorism and all associated activities, and murder.

12.2 Prisoner swaps are hereby banned. If you don’t want to go to prison, stop committing crimes.

13. Israel is not answerable to the rest of the world. We do not need any approval or permission to protect our nation.

13.1 Israel will be funding an international civilian force to arm all Jews and protect all diaspora communities. An armed nation is a secure nation.

14. Any terrorist activity, of any kind whatsoever, no matter how small, will be met with summary execution against the perpetrators. Terrorists do not have the right to a trial, or a lawyer. Areas infested with terrorists will be bombed worse than Dresden, with no warnings, no phone-calls, no leaflets, and no concern for “civilians”.

15. The days of Jew dying are now over. Find someone else to pick on. End of discussion.

Welcome to the New Israel. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Someday I think that something quite similar to this suggested inaugural speech will be delivered. I am afraid that it will come to pass only after Israel has been hit with WMD’s (chem/bio/nuc) It should become policy right now though.

The near 1900 civilian casualties on the Palestinian side are mostly women and children, and 'some' old guys.

That's what my local abc news continuously said. They even showed video of a small bundle in shroud carried around. So I should believe them, right?

In addition here’s what should happen, sooner than later:!!! ...>>>... Bomb the Hell out of Mecca/Medina, like happened to the Germans 1944-45 and later when President Truman drop two “small” bombs on the Japs. Just look where these two Countries are today. If today’s passivity is continued, grandchildren and their children are sure to be beheaded if not willing converted to the evil animalistic ISLAM!!!

Prayer for Iraq

O God, who art the unsearchable abyss of peace,
the ineffable sea of love, the fountain of blessings
and the bestower of affection,
who sendest peace to those that receive it;

Open to us this day the sea of thy love
and water us with plenteous streams
from the riches of thy grace
and from the most sweet springs of thy kindness.

Make us children of quietness and heirs of peace,
enkindle in us the fire of thy love;
sow in us thy fear;
strengthen our weakness by thy power;
bind us closely to thee and to each other
in our firm and indissoluble bond of unity:

Syrian Clementine Liturgy (in: For all God’s people; p. 73)

Litany for Iraq

For lasting peace in this ancient land – From you, O Lord.
For wisdom and compassion for all in authority – From you, O Lord.
For comfort for families separated or bereaved – From you, O Lord.
For the release of captives – From you, O Lord.
For safety and security for minority communities.
For refreshment for the weary and healing for the sick – From you, O Lord.
For continuing faithfulness of the ancient churches of this land – From you, O Lord.
For tenacity of spirit for small Christian groups – From you, O Lord.
For the mutual enrichment and support of those of different Christian traditions – From you, O Lord.

You, Lord of all, we confess;
You, Lord Jesus, we glorify;
For you are the life of our bodies
And you are the Saviour of our souls.

The response in the litany and this hymn both come from the Chaldean liturgy. The ancient hymn celebrates Christ the source of resurrection in all situations of death and deprivation. (in: With All God’s People, p. 21, 22)

From Anonymous:

Father God, Our Savior and King,

We come to You in despair over the evil being done to our Middle East Christian brothers and sisters. We ask that You would put Your hand of protection upon them and that You would sustain them as You did the Israelites in the desert. Lord, cause our brothers and sisters to cry out to You for help and show them the peace that only You can give in answer to their needs. In their darkest moments, Lord, keep them, strengthen them, and comfort them. When they despair that no one is coming to help them, Lord, reveal Your glory and restore their souls.

We ask you these things in the blessed name of Your precious son, Jesus Christ.
