The first female captain of a Navy warship has been stripped of her command over allegations of an affair with a fellow officer. Commander Sarah West, 41, was sacked as skipper of the frigate HMS Portland.
It follows reports revealing claims that she had a relationship with her married third-in-command.
A Royal Navy spokesperson said: We can confirm that Commander Sarah West, Commanding Officer of HMS PORTLAND, has been removed from Command.
"This is an internal matter between the individual and her senior officers and we will not give further details of the removal.
"Commander West will continue to serve in the Royal Navy and she will be reappointed to a post where her skills and experience can be used to best effect.”
Commander West, 42, took charge of the frigate HMS Portland in May 2012, but was put on leave while officials decided whether she had broken strict rules on relationships.

Another thread on this subject had comments, which stated that girls in our navy function as prostitutes on navy ships.
I just don’t know. What does it say about people’s morals, and the readiness of our navy, if the girls on the ship, who presumeably were not prostitutes in civilian life, start to function as prostitutes for the men on the ship.

When the subject of mixed gender crews comes up, mention is sometimes made of Navy repair ship USS Puget Sound (1966-1996) aka USS Pubic Mound for its shipboard dalliances.

Probably not much will happen to the lower ranking. Depends on the circumstances. The lower ranking will usually claim they didnt have a choice due to her being the boss.
I wasn’t in the Navy but was in the Air Force and spent quite a bit of time at remote areas.
A few women did prostitute themselves. In Korea some American women would trade sex for TVs, microwaves or other controlled items. Rare but it was certainly there.
A few maintained their morals and had a boyfriend or two but nothing outrageous.
Too many took advantage of the 10 to 1 ratio of men to women. Even the average or below average girl got a LOT of attention from guys.

No kidding. . spent time in ‘89 on the USS LaSalle and the PM dropped by Bahrain and the PM females went ashore and started scrumping sailors from other ships and that caused a riot on the pier when the guys from the PM found out other sailors were doing their women and the other sailors “poked” fun at the PM guys for doing their women.
