A mother, alerted by a foul odor, found out her son died four days earlier in their Pennsylvania home, and on Monday an autopsy was under way and the boy's father remained jailed in the case.

The 8-year-old boy, Jarrod Tutko, Jr., was among five children in the family who suffer from medical or developmental problems, according to the Harrisburg Patriot-News website.

He was being cared for by his father in an upper bedroom of the Harrisburg home while his mother, Kimberly Tutko, tended to his 10-year-old sister, who is comatose, on another floor, according to the Patriot-News website.

The mother had not seen the boy, who was prone to smear feces on himself, in four years out of fear she would carry an infection back to his sister, the news site reported.

Dauphin County Assistant District Attorney Fran Chardo declined to confirm the details of the news report.

This should be a lesson to those who smear feces on themselves.

The boy was a special needs child.

So feces-smearing is fine and good?

Something isn’t right about this. I’m sure the mother knows how to wash so that she doesn’t bring an infection to the daughter. Too many unanswered questions that need to be asked.

Turns out there are some stories that can still make me want to wretch. Good grief why did such degenerates have charge of 5 children. The sperm donor is being held on half a million dollars bail. What a sick evil man. I don’t buy the egg donor’s story as to why she didn’t see her son for half of his 8 years. I suspect they were raking in gov’t subsidies for these poor, ill children. God Bless the remaining kids with a real home.

I’m not seeing that these children were their biological children. My guess is that they were adopting or fostering special needs children and raking in the money.

“The 8-year-old boy, Jarrod Tutko, Jr., was among five children in the family who suffer from medical or developmental problems...”

Is it just me, or does the fact that one family has five children with such issues seem strange and possibly a sign that something not quite right may be going on in this family?

Not sure what exactly, but it doesn’t smell right. SSDI fraud? Abuse? Munchausen by proxy? I don’t know, but those things might be worth ruling out...

Could be as simple as two very overwhelmed people spiraling down a path of complete emotional and physical exhaustion.

There was a time when small communities, like churches, could pull together in situations like these. They would prop, ably be jailed for not having some license or something now.

"Too many unanswered questions that need to be asked."

Yeah, like what was the reason the daughter was in a coma? Illness or abuse? I recommend not looking at the photos at the site. Makes me want to puke.

Could be inbreeding or just plain wonky genes. My wife had a pre-schooler and both of his parents were mentally-handicapped. The father had an IQ high enough to wash dishes but the mom was only capable of one thing and that got them a child.
It was sad.

You'll never hear me complain ever again about being the designated baby sitter for my nearly 4YO grandson. Damn what a horrible story.

Don't get me wrong, I love the little guy. I sometimes feel taken for granted when my wife and daughter take off on their weekend "errands."

We have our own version of "Angry Birds". He's the bird, and I'm the Moustache Pig. He jumps on me from the third stair, and I act like he knocked a package of Fun Dip from my hands.

...was among five children in the family who suffer from medical or developmental problems...

It's not clear if this is inflicted, or if the family was on the losing end of the gene lottery.

I should have said:
My 4 YO grandson is hell on wheels most of the time.....when he’s with US.

When Mommy and Daddy are around he’s an absolute angel. He knows not to even think of acting up when they are around...................
