CDC ^ | 08/07/14 | CDC

Posted on 08/07/2014 10:03:31 AM PDT by winoneforthegipper

Purpose

This document provides interim guidance for laboratorians and other healthcare personnel collecting or handling specimens in the United States on appropriate specimen collection, transport and testing of specimens from patients who are suspected to be infected with Ebola virus. Infection Control for Collecting and Handling Specimens

It is expected that all laboratorians and other healthcare personnel collecting or handling specimens follow established standards compliant with the OSHA bloodborne pathogens standardExternal Web Site Icon, which encompasses blood and other potentially infectious materials. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to engineered safeguards, for all specimens regardless of whether they are identified as being infectious.

Recommendations for specimen collection: full face shield or goggles, masks to cover all of nose and mouth, gloves, fluid resistant or impermeable gowns. Additional PPE may be required in certain situations.

Recommendations for laboratory testing: full face shield or goggles, masks to cover all of nose and mouth, gloves, fluid resistant or impermeable gowns AND use of a certified class II Biosafety cabinet or plexiglass splash guard, as well as manufacturer-installed safety features for instruments.

It is expected that all laboratorians...

What does it matter what religion they are?

It actually matters. Some religions in Africa advocate hugging and kissing the bodies of the dear departed. This is how complete villages in Africa are wiped out.

The incubation period is usually 8–10 days (rarely ranging from 2 to 21 days). Patients can transmit the virus while febrile and through later stages of disease, as well as postmortem.
U.S. hospitals can safely manage a patient with EVD by following recommended isolation and infection control procedures.
It is further recommended that health care providers maintain joint and muscle flexibility so that, if a worker is exposed, he or she can bend low enough to kiss his or her butt goodbye.

Recent articles are showing they're now dumping family members in the streets as well.

You've got highly superstitious people who won't report them...who use witch doctors and the like...not to mention the overall lack of hygiene in the country. As long as they cling to their superstitions they will have major issues with containing this.

Needle sharing Dope heads will take it under consideration.

there are no laws that compel visitors or even patients to maintain isolation...we've had visitors wander in and out of isolation.."she's my wife so I don't need to wear isolation gear"...and then use the public BR or go to the cafeteria....

now you could get a court order and have a guard I suppose....

bammy wants ebola here...its not fair that only Africa suffers...

Heck...doesn’t even need to make it into that sector since their healthcare workers have been re-using needles.

If the two patients in Atlanta survive, it will be interesting to see how long they continue to carry the virus.

He doesn’t actually need for Ebola to get turned loose here, just the fear of it which he’s done.

Some of the diseases the illegals are bringing in will give you the same symptoms of Ebola except for the bleeding.

Some of those diseases spread like wildfire and will create mass panic because the ability to test for Ebola will be maxed out in a little no time.

A person ill with the Ebola virus touches the side rail of their bed. then their visitor touches the side rail.
The average person touches their own face many times in ah hour.
(Caveat: This youtube’s Hollyweird, so it must be true.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0e8SxK-_qw
And from what I’ve read you don’t have to be very ill with the virus to be contagious, just “febrile”: running a fever.

So yeah, as usual Barry is in the back of the Winnebago taking a nap, while the country is on cruise control.
But when he’s rested he’ll come up and sit in his captain’s chair, and resume his assault on our civil liberties.

“Ebola, schmebola—I got Bethesda ... fore!”

No dummy...laboratorians are a critical part of the human birthing process...

NOTE: Don't ask me which one is the laboratorian in the photo above. ALL were involved in the labor at some point.

It will be interesting if we ever receive accurate information from our bribed/threatened/hijacked 4th estate.

To collect specimens, don’t you just put sterile cups beside each bodily orifice, wait one minute, then seal the lids?

I was a phlebotomist during the 80s when AIDS was rampant and not fully understood. Glad I’m long done with that line of work. Can’t imagine having to collect and process these specimens.
