This is an interesting article and captures quite well the fundamental issue that faces conservatives. Like it or not, in a two party system, the Republican Party is the only option. But the arrogance and out of touch attitude that we saw from Pat Roberts is mirrored by many of his supporters, including ones on this forum. They insist that we sit in the corner and shut up and accept what’s good for us.
Throwing Roberts suddenly repaired voting record does not obviate the fact that he has ignored much of Kansas in favor of the well lobbied factions, and does not change the fact that by not living here, he has truly lost touch. He is a quintessential Washington insider and he does not understand that we are very tired of that sort of politics.
All of those who are gloating over his great “victory” will continue to ignore the fundamental problems that the conservative base has been shouting from the mountaintops, such as they are out here in the heartland.
Exactly. Thinking you can pluck some creep out of obscurity and instantly elect him to the highest legislative office in the nation simply by screaming "RINO Washington DC insider!" at a solidly conservative incumbent and marketing your empty suit challenger as "Obama's conservative cousin" is about as arrogant and out of touch as it gets.
Votes want candidates with substance, they don't automatically vote against an incumbent because you want them to.
But you haven't learned anything from that, so you will continue to lose.
Arrogance and out of touch attitude of supporters of Roberts ? We weren’t the ones putting blind faith in a candidate with no record, no accomplishments and no substantive credibility... one offering nothing but promises. The proverbial all hat and no cattle.
And for the record, I favored the challengers in almost EVERY GOP Senate primary race this year (including the one today here in Tennessee). Roberts was one of the very few incumbent Senators demonstrably better than their challenger.
